1. Government Excellence Scholarships

The Swiss Confederation offers these scholarships available at the University of Zurich to encourage students to pursue studies in Switzerland. There are two types of scholarships. The first type, the research scholarship, wherein the awardee may pursue postgraduate research or further studies at the doctoral or postdoctoral level. The second type is an art scholarship for those intending to pursue a master’s degree.

The scholarship benefits are varied and many, including monthly stipends, travel costs, and even tours and dinners organized for scholarship holders. Those from non-EU or non-EFTA countries may also enjoy Swiss health insurance and flight allowance to return to their country. To apply, you will need to submit two sets of documents. These documents include the application form, curriculum vitae, motivation letter, research proposal, and letter from an academic host professor. There will be a preliminary selection before the final assessment by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students.

2. Forschungskredit Candoc

  • Scholarship Amount: CHF 50,000 to CHF 100,000
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Enrolled at UZH or have binding confirmation from a UZH Ph.D. supervisor

This scholarship is made possible through the funds provided by Forschungskredit, allowing UZH to support students at the doctoral or postdoctoral level. It is intended for researchers whose work shows great potential and will enable them to pursue their research. The benefits of this scholarship include salary and materials (limited) support. This University of Zurich scholarship is applicable for at most 24 months and can be extended by at most 12 months.

3. BRIDGE Proof of Concept

  • Scholarship Amount: CHF 130,000 per year
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Assured support from UZH for the project duration
    • Gained research experience through bachelor’s or master’s degree no more than four years ago or completing doctoral studies within the next six months or less
    • Individual proposal

A joint program by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Innovation Agency, this scholarship intends to support research and innovation through their two funding opportunities. Of these two, the Proof of Concept, which emphasizes innovation, is applicable for UZH students.

The benefits cover your salary and project costs for a period of 12 months. This may be extended to a maximum of 6 months. To apply, you must meet the criteria/regulations, submit your project proposal, undergo an initial check, and present your project personally.
