University of Southampton Scholarships for International Students

The University of Southampton is considered in the top 100 universities in the world. Scholarships available at the University of Southampton vary greatly by the student’s continent and country of origin. Available funding ranges from scholarships to grants and bursaries. Some awards are conditional, and some might need to be repaid at a later time. Scholarships can be found for leadership, interest in international development, or based on requirements stated by the awarding country. Options vary for undergraduate or postgraduate students. Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Southampton

1. Commonwealth Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Expenses such as airfare, living and tuition, with child allowances also available

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commissions in the UK is led by international development objectives and is meant to uphold the principles of the Commonwealth. This program began in 1960 and has grown to serve 53 Commonwealth nations. These scholarships, which are available at the University of Southampton, are geared toward talented and ambitious students who will gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development. Most funding is made available by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and is intended to foster the UK’s international development and wider overseas aims and interests.

2. Undergraduate Merit Scholarships

University of Southampton Scholarships are available for candidates studying programs in Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Environmental and Life Sciences, and Social Sciences. Non-eligibility includes English language pre-sessional programmes, Foundation programmes, Undergraduate programmes in the Faculty of Medicine or the School of Health Sciences, Distance Learning programmes, and programmes offered at a partner institution or overseas campus. Students must also have an offer from Southampton, meet academic requirements, and pay any deposit required by the date given on the letter of offer.

3. Toptal Scholarships for Women

  • Scholarship Amount: $10000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Individuals who live and identify as women who are 16 or older

Toptal Scholarships for Women supports women with leadership potential. They aspire to develop the next generation of female CEOs, founders, and world leaders. It is an international award, but applicants must be legal citizens of the country in which they are a legal resident. On top of monetary benefits, the scholarship offers a year of mentoring from a Toptal expert. Applicants will need to submit a complete plan and create a blog post based on that plan. Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Southampton

1. Chevening Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Fully funded (flights, accommodation, and course fees are included)
  • Eligibility Criteria: Ambition, leadership qualities, and strong academic background. (American citizens not eligible)
  • Degree Offered: Master’s

Chevening Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as partner organisations. Candidates will be working toward a Master’s degree, live and study in the UK for a year, and are expected to develop, grow a network, and experience life in the UK with the intent of fostering ongoing relations between the United States and the United Kingdom. 2. Marshall Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: tuition fees, living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, travel to and from the United States, with the potential for payment to support a dependent spouse
  • Eligibility Criteria: American citizens who hold their first undergraduate degree after April 2019 from an accredited university in the United States with a GPA of no less than 3.7 at the time of application. Further eligibility details can be found at the link below.

The Marshall Scholarship selectors choose up to fifty candidates per year with the potential to become scholars, leaders and contributors to improving UK-US relations. Candidates are assessed on academic merit, leadership potential and ambassadorial potential. This scholarship available at the University of Southampton are based on merit following a transparent process, and are awarded to students from all backgrounds. Candidates who are studying or have a British degree or equivalent are not eligible. Marshal Scholarships are offered for one or two years of study.

3. China Scholarship Council Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition (subject to successful application for a CSC award for living costs)

The China Scholarship Council provides funding to Chinese students who wish to study outside of China. Applicants must have received an offer for a PhD place from the University of Southampton and must meet the university’s English language requirements. Nominated students will also need to apply to the CSC for living costs scholarship funding. The China Scholarship Council recognizes the University of Southampton as a partner institute.
