The University of Sydney (USYD), founded in 1850, is one of the Sandstone Universities in Australia. Along with five others, these institutions are the oldest, most prestigious schools in Australia, and from where the distinction was derived, have one of the most beautiful and historical sandstone buildings. Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Sydney

1. Sydney Scholars Awards

  • Scholarship Amount: $6,000
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Domestic (including New Zealand residents) and international undergraduate students
    • Has an Australian tertiary admission rank (ATAR) of 95 or above (students applying to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music or Sydney Dental School must have an ATAR of 90 or above)

The Sydney Scholars Awards is offered to high-achieving students aspiring to pursue their undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney. To apply, an online application form must be submitted including additional supporting documents and a personal statement. This one-time scholarship at the University of Sydney amounting to $6,000 is granted to the chosen students.

2. Humanitarian High Achiever Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Up to $50,000 per year
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • International students commencing their undergraduate studies in an eligible program
    • Has been residing in Australia for one year
    • Holds an asylum seeker status in Australia with a valid visa
    • Does not have any prior tertiary education in an Australian university

Established in 2019 by an anonymous donor, the Humanitarian High Achiever Scholarship has since then supported asylum seeker status students in their financial needs throughout their college life. The selection is made by the committee based on the applicant’s academic standing and submitted personal statement.

Up to $50,000 may be covered by this University of Sydney scholarship each year until the completion of the student’s program if a minimum mark of 50 of all subjects enrolled each semester is maintained. Applications are submitted through this page.

3. Australia Awards Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fee and other allowances
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Citizen of one of the participating countries covered by the scholarship
    • Not married to an Australian or New Zealand citizen or someone with permanent residency

Managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Australia Awards is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by the Australian government to partner with developing countries. Through this, DFAT aspires to contribute to the development of aspiring students, which in turn, will transform them into significant agents of change in their own country. The opportunity allows students to undertake a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree at a participating university, and they will receive a generous amount that will cover their tuition and other daily expenses throughout the completion of their studies.

Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Sydney

1. Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships Scheme

  • Scholarship Amount: Up to $40,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students who applied for but has not yet commenced a CRICOS-registered award program
  • Degree Offered: Bachelor’s and Master’s coursework

The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship is a one-time award granted to top-performing students who have been accepted into admission at USYD under an undergraduate or Master’s coursework program. Four scholarship amounts are extended based on the awardee’s ranking against the selection criteria.

The top awardee can be granted up to $40,000 payable equally for two semesters, while the second to fourth will receive a scholarship amounting to $20,000, $10,000, and $5,000, consecutively. This will be paid in whole in one semester. No application is needed as all eligible students are automatically considered for this University of Sydney scholarship, and selection is made based on their application to the university and by the nomination of the selection committee.

The Fullbright Program by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States provides opportunities for talented individuals to pursue research and other educational projects in one of more than 160 partner countries. The award allows U.S citizens to study abroad or for international citizens to visit the United States. Through their programs, students from across the globe can collaborate and break cultural barriers, share their experiences, and provide solutions to universal concerns.

3. Capital Markets Cooperative Research Center Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Up to $50,000
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Has a first-class honors degree or Master’s degree with an exceptional academic record
    • Ph.D. students in the field of finance, health, actuarial studies, applied mathematics, or computing

The CMCRC is a research center seeking highly motivated academic achievers who are interested in working closely with their partners in doing research while enrolled in a partner university, one of which is the USYD. This University of Sydney scholarship award of up to $50,000 is a living allowance that may be renewed for up to three years. The selection process is significantly merit-based and shortlisted candidates will have to go through an interview.
