The Chevening Scholarship is one of the world’s most notable scholarships. Funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, this scholarship is aimed at making high-quality education in the United Kingdom accessible to the rest of the world. The ideal candidate is someone who has exceptional academic performance and displays leadership skills and qualities.

The first step to applying for the Chevening Scholarship is applying for any eligible master’s program at the University of Surrey. The scholarship will be requiring you to choose at least three courses, and this will better your chances of being accepted for the grant as well. The scholarship’s official website has a handy course tracker that you can use to find all eligible courses.

Once that is done, you are now ready to apply for the Chevening Scholarship itself. Because of its long application process, you are encouraged to apply for this scholarship available at the University of Surrey as early as possible. Applications open as early as August and close around the first week of November. Do not wait for applications to open before compiling all your documents either—with how many documents you need to submit, it pays to be prepared.

The next step is to create an account on the scholarship’s website. You will need one to access your country’s online application form here. Use the search bar to look for your own country’s page and click it to find more detailed instructions and the actual link to the application.

Once you’re logged in, you will be asked a series of questions. This is the first stage. You will be asked about your leadership qualities, your reasons for choosing the University of Surrey, your educational background and their relevance to your chosen courses, and your previous work experiences. Take great care in composing your answers. If you have impressed the scholarships team, you will be required to upload documents like your grades, reference letters, resumes, and other documents to support your application.

The scholarships team will be reviewing your application and documents over the next few months. If you have been shortlisted for the next step, they will be contacting the British embassies in your country for an interview. These interviews are just to gauge how well you’re suited for the scholarship and what your plans are if you were to be chosen. They are usually face-to-face and formal, so make an impact with both your answers and your appearance.

You will hear back about your application by early June. By this time, you should have already received an acceptance letter from the University of Surrey. You will need to show this letter to obtain the Chevening Scholarship or it will otherwise be forfeited.
