York University Scholarships for International Students

Undergraduate Scholarships at York University

1. Masterclass Research Placement

  • Scholarship Amount: paid placement
  • Eligibility Criteria: students studying Physics at the university and achieved high grades in their first exam

This York University scholarship is open to all students, international or from the UK, studying a Physics undergraduate degree at York University. It gives the most successful candidates on the course the opportunity to experience a paid placement with one of the university’s Department of Physics research groups.

To be considered, you need to have the equivalent of a British A* at A-Level in either Mathematics or Physics. It is only open to students who are currently studying Physics at York and have achieved 70 percent or higher in stage one. If you did not get the equivalent of an A* at A-Level, then you can still be considered if you show improvement and commitment during the course.

2. Chemistry Excellence Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: £1,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: international students studying in the Department of Chemistry

York University offers ten of these scholarships to undergraduate international students studying Chemistry. There is no need to apply for this scholarship because if you meet all the requirements, you will be automatically provided with the award.

The requirements include applying via UCAS, being able to pay your living costs while in the UK, along paying the fee rate for your year of entry. These ten awards will be allocated to those who fill the criteria and can demonstrate outstanding academic ability.

3. Electronic Engineering International Academic Excellence Scholarships

  • Eligibility Criteria: international students in the Department of Electronic Engineering
  • Degree Offered: undergraduate

This scholarship is like the Chemistry Excellence Scholarship (see above) in that it allows international students with the outstanding academic ability to receive a monetary award. It is directed at students studying the Department of Electronic Engineering at York University.

You do not need to apply for this York University scholarship either, you just need to ensure you have allocated York as your first choice of university as an international student. There are only three of these scholarships available to those with the most impressive academic achievements, during and before university. The money will be provided in two installments of £500, one during the Autumn term of your first year and the other during the summer term.

Postgraduate Scholarships at York University

1. Be Exceptional Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: £2,500 to £7,500 tuition fee discount
  • Eligibility Criteria: international students with an unconditional offer at the university
  • Degree Offered: undergraduate and postgraduate taught

The money in this York University scholarship deducts from £2,500 to £7,500 from your tuition fees. It is eligible for international students studying either undergraduate or postgraduate taught degrees. The money is only deducted from your first year of study.

It is a panel of senior staff from the university who decide, not only who get the scholarships, but how much they get. The amounts provided are £2,500, £5,000, or £7,500. 2. Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: £10,000 to £20,000 tuition fee deduction
  • Eligibility Criteria: international students with an unconditional offer at the university
  • Degree Offered: undergraduate and postgraduate taught

If you are eligible for a Be Exceptional Scholarship (see above) then you will be automatically considered for a Vice-Chancellor Scholarship. These prestigious scholarships offer a deduction of between £10,000 and £20,000 from the tuition fees of undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees. Postgraduate students receive a £10,000 tuition fee discount where undergraduate students receive £10,000 in their first year and £5,000 for the following two years.

Students who have already had an offer to study at York University on a full-time course can apply and this is done through the Be Exceptional scholarship. Several courses are not eligible to apply for this award, see the scholarship page for a list of these courses.

3. Chevening Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: full tuition fee and a living stipend
  • Eligibility Criteria: hold citizenship in an eligible country, complete at least two years of work experience, and commit to working in your home country for at least two years after your master’s degree
  • Degree Offered: postgraduate taught

Chevening has partnered with York University to offer international students from certain countries financial opportunities to study for a postgraduate taught degree. They are offering ten students full tuition fees covered as well as a monthly living allowance.

To be eligible for this fully funded scholarship available at York University, you must have achieved a minimum of a 2:1 honors degree (or equivalent), at least two years of work experience, a high standard of English, and commit to working in your home country for at least two years after completing the master’s degree.
