Undergraduate Scholarships at Yonsei University

1. Global Korean Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fees
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals without Korean citizenship. Eligible applicants must be academic achievers with a GPA above 80%, have graduated from an institution outside of Korea, and must be younger than 25 years of age.

Applicants may send their applications to the Korean embassy in the country of their citizenship or directly through the university. The application deadline is different depending on where the student decides to apply. Students must contact the Korean embassy or Yonsei University to find out when the exact deadline is.

The scholarship entails that the student undergo a year of Korean language training before beginning their bachelor’s degree program.

This scholarship at Yonsei University covers travel and housing expenses, Korean language training, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend.

2. Global Leadership Division In-School Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Tuition reduction or exemption
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled incoming students who have a total of more than 12 credit hours and are able to maintain a high-grade point average (GPA).

This Yonsei University scholarship is applicable to Yonsei University’s Global Leaders College. It follows a Korean language-based curriculum. Because of this, they provide students with Korean language and culture courses in order to assist them with adjusting to the South Korean environment.

The scholarship amount awarded varies depending on the number of semesters the student has to take. They are also based on three major categories; need-based, merit-based, and work-based.

3. Yonsei University’s Underwood International College (UIC) Admission Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fees
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Eligible scholarship awardees are automatically considered during the admission process based on their provided previous academic credentials.

Any international student applying for admission into the university will automatically be considered as a prospective scholarship candidate. The scholarship offer letter will be attached to the student’s admission acceptance letter. Because of the nature of the scholarship, it is only offered during the student’s admission period.

Students who are awarded this scholarship at Yonsei are expected to maintain a specific GPA in order to stay eligible for the scholarship. It will not be automatically renewed unless the student meets those requirements.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Yonsei University

1. Global Korea Scholarship – Yonsei Graduate School

  • Scholarship Amount: Up to 5,000,000 KRW
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to anyone holding non-Korean citizenship. To be considered an eligible applicant, the student must have maintained an exceptional cumulative grade point average, be ranked within the top 20% of their class, are in good health, and are under 40 years of age.

There are two application periods each year, one in spring and the other in fall. Because the application deadline varies every year, the applicant must contact the Korean embassy in their country or the university administration to find out the exact date.

There are two tracks, the Embassy track and the University track, through which the applicants can apply. The applicants will go through two to three shortlisting processes.

The scholarship covers travel and accommodation fees, Korean language training, medical insurance, and a monthly allowance.

2. Yonsei School of Business Global MBA

  • Scholarship Amount: 25% to 100% of Tuition fees
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. The applicant must either be a high-performing individual, need financial aid, or add diversity to the course of study.

Applicants will be considered on a Merit-based, Need-based, or Global Fellowship basis. There will be an interview which will affect the scholarship award amount. The scholarship may cover accommodation, living expenses, book fees, and recreational expenses.

Students who are granted this Yonsei University scholarship will be required to work for a minimum of 10 hours per week as an MBA assistant.

There is no application period for this scholarship, as the scholarship will be awarded simultaneously with the student’s admission offer.

3. Yonsei Global Institute of Theology (GIT) Financial Support

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fees
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Any student who has accepted an offer of admission from the institute will be considered eligible.

All admitted students are eligible to request financial aid. Students may request to extend their tuition scholarship if they also plan to extend their studies. This will only be given based on the student’s academic achievements in their previous years and upon the faculty’s evaluation.

This scholarship includes full financial aid for accommodation/ dormitory fees and the students’ living expenses. Travel fees, visa application fees, and the student’s health insurance are not covered by this scholarship. The funding for the scholarship is supported by Yonsei University and a network of Korean churches.
