Western Sydney University, also known as WSU or formerly as the University of Western Sydney, was founded in 1989. They have six campuses situated across the Greater Western Sydney region, an offshore campus in Vietnam, and a large online platform for flexible study arrangements.

WSU is most known for its nursing program which has ranked highly across different measures, but they also excel in other academic subjects such as engineering, agricultural sciences, and arts and humanities. Because of their commitment to academic excellence, they are in the top 2% of universities globally based on the World University Rankings. They are also part of the top 50 youngest universities worldwide based on the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings and are also distinguished in the fields of research, sustainability, and inclusion.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Western Sydney University

1. Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: 50% tuition fee waiver

    • International students (excluding New Zealand citizens)
    • Must have a minimum ATAR of 90 or equivalent during their secondary studies

The Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to academically competent students who will be undertaking their undergraduate studies in WSU. To be eligible, the candidate must be an international student with an ATAR of 90 or equivalent during their secondary education. Citizens of New Zealand are excluded from eligibility.

Applications are not needed as all qualified candidates are automatically considered for this Western Sydney University scholarship. Shortlisted applicants will then be required to submit a short statement before the final selection is made by the committee. The scholars will receive a tuition fee waiver of 50% until the completion of their studies or for up to three years.

2. Western Sydney International Scholarships – Undergraduate

  • Eligibility Criteria: International students (excluding New Zealand citizens)

The Western Sydney International Scholarship supports upcoming undergraduate students entering the university. Successful candidates can receive a tuition waiver amounting to AUD 3,000 or AUD 6,000, depending on their academic standing from their previous studies. This scholarship has no application process. Eligible candidates will automatically be considered and will receive notification of their scholarship acceptance alongside their offer for admission at WSU.

3. Australia Awards Scholarship

The Australia Awards Scholarship is a project by the country’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which aims to support the development of Australia’s partner countries. Through this opportunity, students from developing countries can experience quality education and bring home knowledge to help their own nation in the future. The scholarship is open to undergraduate and postgraduate candidates who want to pursue their studies in a partner Australian institution.

To be eligible for this scholarship available at Western Sydney University, the applicant must be a citizen of a participating country. Other requirements will vary depending on the student’s chosen program and university. Once accepted, the scholar will be presented with a contract from the Commonwealth of Australia to ensure compliance throughout the program. The scholarship includes many benefits such as a full tuition waiver, coverage of living and travel costs, allowances, and Overseas Student Health Cover. Non-material benefits such as academic support are also included.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Western Sydney University

1. Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Postgraduate Scholarships

    • Must have a minimum GPA of 5.95 on a 7-point scale or equivalent in their undergraduate degree

Same with those for undergraduates, the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship is a merit-based award for outstanding postgraduate students at WSU. International students of all nationalities, except for New Zealand citizens, are eligible for this Western Sydney University scholarship. The grade requirement to qualify for the scholarship is 5.95 on a 7-point scale or equivalent during their undergraduate studies.

Applications are not necessary, as all candidates who meet the criteria are automatically considered. Shortlisted students will have to submit a statement on how the scholarship will be of help to them and their future careers. If selected, the scholars will be awarded a 50% tuition fee discount for a maximum of two academic years.

2. Western Sydney International Scholarships – Postgraduate

The Western Sydney International Scholarship is a one to two-year scholarship program granted to the top-performing students who are about to commence their postgraduate studies in the university. All applications for admission are screened and qualified candidates are automatically considered for this scholarship available at Western Sydney University. Chosen grantees can receive a tuition waiver valued at AUD 3,000 or AUD 6,000, depending on their chosen program and academic merit during their most recent studies.

3. Fullbright Scholarship

Fullbright Australia is a non-profit organization funded by the US and Australian governments. Their Fullbright Scholarship allows Australian citizens to partake in an exchange program in the United States, or US citizens in Australia. Fullbright offers different scholarships for doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as researchers. Depending on the kind of scholarship the candidate will apply for, they can receive a number of benefits such as allowances, health coverage, and other non-material support. Fullbright does not cover the costs of the tuition.

Along with the application form, interested candidates must also submit their CV, personal statement, and proof of academic credentials. Interviews are also administered as part of the selection process before the list of scholars is finalized. Upon completion of the exchange program, the scholars must submit a final report and return to their home country.
