Wash U has academic scholarships and the Signature Scholars Program open to international students. Most of these scholarships offer full tuition and generous living stipends to recipients.

Scholarships that guarantee full tuition and stipend are also available to students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or Master’s degree at Wash U. With this said a handful of these scholarships require applicants to have had completed their undergraduate degree in a U.S. institution. Washington University in St. Louis provides full-time funding to their Ph.D. students through assistantships, scholarships, and fellowships. Stipends are also provided to students enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

Specific information may be acquired through the department unit to which a student intends to apply. Almost all of Wash U’s Ph.D. students are funded by the university.

1. Ampersand Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition and a $1,000 living stipend

The Ampersand Scholarship is reserved for 16 scholars that demonstrate a strong interest in at least two subjects in the academic area of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Applicants in the College of Arts and Sciences are automatically considered for the scholarship upon applying for admission.

The Washington University in St. Louis scholarship is renewable every academic year for as long as the recipient is making satisfactory academic progress. Students interested in being considered for the Ampersand Scholarship are encouraged to express their interest in subjects under at least two of the traditional studies in Art and Sciences in their common application form.

2. Alexander S. Langsdorf Fellowship

  • Eligible Degrees: All undergraduate degrees in the McKelvey School of Engineering
  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition and a $1,000 living stipend

The Alexander S. Langsdorf Fellowship is offered to incoming first-year students of the Mckelvey School of Engineering. Recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate excellent academic achievement in mathematics and science.

This award is reserved for 10 outstanding applicants only. No additional application is required to be considered for the scholarship and all applications sent to the Mckelvey School of Engineering are automatically reviewed. The Alexander S. Langsdorf Fellowship is renewable annually for as long as the scholar is making satisfactory academic progress.

3. Conway/ Proetz Scholarships in Art

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition

This scholarship at Washington University in St. Louis is given to students with outstanding artistic ability and excellent academic performance. The Conway/Proetz Scholarship in Art awards one scholar full tuition coverage and five recipients a scholarship of $10,000 each.

Applicants for the art scholarship must submit an artistic digital portfolio containing 10-20 pieces. Finalists will be invited for a final interview which is mandatory to remain eligible. The Conway/Proetz Scholarship is renewable annually.

4. Danforth Scholars Program

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition and a $2,500 living stipend

The Danforth Scholars Program offers full tuition and living stipend to students with outstanding academic achievement while demonstrating superior leadership in serving the community. The scholarship is reserved for students that show a strong commitment to helping others.

This Washington University in St. Louis scholarship may be renewed annually for as long as the scholar is making satisfactory academic progress. Interested applicants for the scholarship must submit a separate Danthforth Scholars Application aside from their application for admission at Washington University in St. Louis.

5. Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition and a $2,500 living stipend

This scholarship is offered to students with outstanding academic achievement and exemplary leadership in service. Scholars of the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program can receive full tuition and a living stipend of $2,500 or a partial-tuition scholarship.

Recipients of this Washington University in St. Louis scholarship must take part in the events and activities of the program. This includes attending meetings with leaders in the university and the community, providing academic support and advising, and participating in service projects conducted in and out of campus.

The scholarship is renewable annually for as long as the scholar is making satisfactory academic progress.

6. McDonnell International Scholars Academy

  • Eligible Degrees: Selected Ph.D. degrees and masters degrees
  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition, a monthly living stipend, and programmatic support

The McDonnell International Scholars Academy offers generous support for graduate students that demonstrate strong academic promise and a commitment to learning about international leadership.

Aside from full tuition coverage and a monthly living stipend, recipients of the scholarship will also be given an allowance for relocation and travel.

This WashU scholarship is reserved for international students with a global mindset and commitment to leadership in the community. It is open to prospective graduate and professional degree students that intend to enroll in Wash U.

Most programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, Brown School, Olin Business School, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, School of Law, School of Medicine, and the McKelvey School of Engineering are eligible.
