Undergraduate Scholarships at Wageningen University & Research

1. Holland Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: ​​5,000 – 15,000 EUR
  • Eligibility Criteria: Citizenship from select countries; acceptance to first fee-paying bachelor’s degree program in the Netherlands.

The Holland Scholarship, available at Wageningen University & Research, is a program in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and several Dutch science and research universities. The scholarship is a one-time subsidy of 5,000 EUR per semester, and can be applied for up to three semesters. Students from select countries may apply for the Holland Scholarship by filling out the financial plan, alongside a recommendation letter or a copy of final grades from their previous school. Requirements must be submitted on the prescribed due date to be considered. For students with dual citizenship, please contact the Student Service Center to ensure eligibility.

2. Orange Tulip Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 25% tuition waiver for non-EU/EFTA students.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Accepted bachelor’s degree students from Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Vietnam; with passing English language proficiency scores; must be an incoming freshman at Wageningen University at the time of application, and not currently working or studying in the Netherlands.

Organized by Nuffic, the Dutch organization for internationalization in education, the Orange Tulip Scholarship program is given to only 30 incoming bachelor’s students in WUR. This scholarship at Wageningen University & Research provides for a 25% tuition waiver, excluding living and study-related expenses. Requirements include a completed application form and a financial plan. Representatives of WUR will then deliberate applications according to the candidate potential, the feasibility of the financial plan, and the diversity of awardees. 3. Sino-Dutch Scholarship (Chinese)

  • Scholarship Amount: 16,113 EUR per year, maximum of four years.
  • Eligibility Criteria: 3rd year Chinese bachelor’s students between 18-35; endorsed by the China Scholarship Council and accepted into CROHO-registered course at Wageningen for at least one year.

The Sino-Dutch Scholarship is a yearly program where 25 Dutch and 25 Chinese students are sponsored by the Chinese and Dutch governments as they pursue their education in each other’s countries. For Chinese students intending to study in WUR under this scholarship, nomination by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a prerequisite to apply. Applications are done online, alongside submission of final grades, Curriculum Vitae, and cover letter. All necessary forms must be submitted to both the CSC and Nuffic. Nuffic then ranks the applicants and grants the first 25 scholars. Should a scholarship not push through, it is given to the next waitlisted applicant.

On the other hand, scholarships for Master’s degrees at Wageningen are far more challenging; these are on an invitational basis as follows:

Postgraduate Scholarships at Wageningen University & Research

1. Excellence Program

  • Scholarship Amount: 100% tuition waiver, plus budget for one seminar in Europe and “Reach Your Full Potential” program
  • Eligibility Criteria: Non-EEA (including Switzerland) students applying for Master’s; a GPA of at least 80%; First Honors or equivalent in undergraduate studies; 1-2 recommendation letters written by the dean or teacher, uploaded alongside Master’s application.

A highly coveted scholarship at Wageningen University & Research, only 10 Excellence Program scholarships are given to deserving Master’s applicants per year. One must submit his Master’s application before a specific deadline to be considered. All applications will then be reviewed, and high potential applicants will be given invitations to apply. The scholarship application involves an assignment, and online interviews if necessary. Applicants will be ranked and scholarships are granted to the top 10. Should one forfeit his slot, this is given to the next in rank.

2. Africa Scholarship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: 100% tuition waiver, budget for one seminar in Europe and “Reach Your Full Potential” program, living allowance, and full subsidy of visa health insurance costs, and travel costs to and from Wageningen.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Student from an African country applying for Master’s in the next academic year; a GPA of at least 80% or First Honors (or equivalent) in undergraduate studies.

An offer exclusively for African students, the Africa Scholarship Program intends to develop high-potential Africans to support capacity-building in the region. The program offers only 10 slots for a comprehensive scholarship covering tuition and living expenses, among others. This is also on an invitation-only basis. The application and screening process is the same as the Excellence Program.

3. Wageningen University Fellowship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: Partial or full scholarship
  • Eligibility Criteria: Non-EEA (including Switzerland) students applying for Master’s
  • Degree Offered: Master’s
  • Scholarship Link

The Wageningen University Fellowship Program is geared towards non-EEA students for a partial or full tuition waiver. But unlike the Excellence Program, this program is co-funded with other organizations like the Anne van den Ban Fund. Hence, the awarded amount of this Wageningen University & Research scholarship depends on fund availability. Application is on an invite-only basis. Note that submission of Master’s applications must be on or before the prescribed deadline to be considered.
