The University of Windsor Open Entrance Scholarship program is one of the leading financial aid programs offered to assist undergraduate international students in their entrance year to the university. This scholarship program aims to attract international students with commendable academic performance in their secondary studies.

To qualify for this University of Windsor scholarship program, applicants must be coming directly from their secondary school studies. To further delineate, the students must have completed a minimum of one term of full-time secondary school studies in the year right before the academic year that they are applying for. Students returning to secondary school to retake the program immediately preceding the academic year applications would not be considered eligible for the scholarship.

As a merit-based scholarship grant, applicants will be ranked based on the general weighted average of their best three or six Grade 12 subjects, equivalent to Canadian U and M level grades. Since applicants may receive their admission notices even before the end of their final high school year, a review of their applications will only commence once the admissions office has received their final grades.

Once ranked, the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office will select a handful of applicants qualified to receive the scholarship grant. The number of slots available will depend on the fiscal budget allocated for this specific scholarship. Qualified applicants will receive a notification to receive their scholarship offer via email. Upon acceptance, students may receive a scholarship grant from the University of Windsor in the form of a tuition fee waiver, amounting to $1,000 to $16,000 per year. The amount of scholarship grant will be determined by the applicant’s assessed academic performance.

2. Barkleys of Avonmore Bursary

Founded by Mr. Fred Barkley in 1979, the Barkleys of Avonmore Bursary is a scholarship grant open to full-time undergraduate international students finishing at least two terms in a Bachelor’s degree program at the University of Windsor. Grantees of this scholarship grant must demonstrate academic excellence despite being financially disadvantaged. This scholarship at the University of Windsor has supported many international students and remains the primary bursary program for international students with financial needs.

Applicants interested in applying for this scholarship must be international students from a third-world country. Further delineating the definition, third world countries, now termed as developing countries, have a less developed industrial base and a relatively low human development index. The applicants should reach out to the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office before applying to verify if their countries are considered third-world countries.

The Student Awards & Financial Aid Office will screen applicants based on their academic merit and financial need to select eligible applicants to receive the grant. Academic merit will be screened based on the applicant’s performance in the past terms enrolled in the University of Windsor. Financial needs will be solely assessed by the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office, following their standard financial needs assessment protocol.

3. OPUS Part-Time Undergraduate International Student Bursaries

Supporting students who, for some reason, are unable to enroll full-time in an undergraduate degree program, the Organization of Part-time University Students (OPUS) offers a bursary specific to international students.

The Part-Time Undergraduate International Student Bursaries are a one-time bursary offered exclusively to international students taking an undergraduate program at Windsor. It is offered annually to all qualifying students, with the number of grantees varying from year to year, depending on the demand and financial resources determined by the OPUS Board of Directors.

As a merit-based and need-based scholarship program at the University of Windsor, part-time undergraduate student-applicants will be screened based on their academic performance and financial need. The organization emphasizes that the scholarship requires strict financial and academic standards, such as above-average grade point averages and demonstrated need for financial assistance. These qualifications will be assessed and screened by the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office of the University of Windsor.

The office will notify qualified applicants to receive the scholarship offer via email. Upon acceptance, grantees will receive a one-time tuition fee waiver of $775. This scholarship is non-renewable and shall not be accepted in conjunction with any other OPUS-sponsored scholarship grant and awards.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Windsor

1. Alumni Association Award for International Students

The Alumni Association of the University of Windsor offers a scholarship grant for four international students taking a postgraduate degree in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, demonstrating academic excellence, social consciousness, and leadership skills. This scholarship grant is specific to currently enrolled international students with previous on-campus activity engagements to develop themselves or others. 2. The Barbara Faria International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarship

The Barbara Faria International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarship is one of the program-based scholarship programs offered by the Graduate School of the University of Windsor to postgraduate international students. This scholarship program provides financial assistance to international students with an offer to the MA Political Science program of the University of Windsor.

This scholarship award at the University of Windsor is automatically applied to eligible students, thus not requiring a separate application process. Interested students must only pass the minimum admission requirements for the MA program in Political Science and must have a minimum undergraduate average of 80%. However, as a competitive scholarship grant with limited slots, a grade better than 80% is encouraged.

Students qualifying for the scholarship will automatically receive a tuition fee waiver of $1,000 to their first year of postgraduate study. This scholarship can be received in conjunction with other scholarship grants and is non-renewable.
