University of Western Australia Scholarships for International Students

Established in 1911, The University of Western Australia (UWA) is located in the Western Australian capital of Perth. Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Western Australia for International Students

1. The Global Sporting Excellence Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Between $5,000 and $48,000.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a citizen of an eligible country who has already been extended an offer from The University of Western Australia for an undergraduate or postgraduate course, and who has already applied for commencement. In terms of athletic prowess, students must be currently competing at an elite level in their sport of choice, either national or international ranks.

The amount awarded will depend on the student’s equivalent Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score. When the scholarship is awarded, the student must register and play for the UWA-affiliated sports team that the scholarship was awarded for. Postgraduate eligibility is also available for this scholarship. To qualify, students must meet at least rank three in a national league or team. For example, students may be a team member for the Youth Olympics, the WA Institute of Sport, or a national league team player. Coaches and sports officials must be accredited and registered to a national team/league/organization.

2. The Global Excellence Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Between $5,000 and $48,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Students from one of the eligible countries who have already received an offer from The University of Western Australia may apply for this scholarship. Additionally, students must have earned a score of 88.00 – 98.00+ on their ATAR (or equivalent) exams, or a score of 70.00 – 85.00+ on their WAM (or equivalent) exams.

The Global Excellence Scholarship was designed to benefit international, top-performing students hoping to attend UWA in pursuit of undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. This University of Western Australia scholarship must be taken up in the semester it was awarded for, and students are expected to attend full-time unless otherwise arranged with the school administration.

3. Rio Tinto Emerging Leaders Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: $10,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: This scholarship is intended for those enrolling in their second year of a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Geology, Mathematics and Statistics, Environmental Science (with an emphasis in Earth Science), Engineering Science specializing in Chemical, Civil, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining, or Environmental Engineering, or a Bachelor of Automation and Robotics.

The Rio Tinto Pty Ltd supplied funding for this scholarship available at the University of Western Australia to assist high-achieving applicants who seek to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. This scholarship is also available for first-year Master’s degree students in related, career-oriented fields such as Master of Data Science and Master of Hydrogeology, among others. Awardees will have the chance to be invited to take part in the Rio Tinto vacation program during the summer months.

Postgraduate University of Western Australia Scholarships for International Students

1. CFH and EA Jenkins Postgraduate Research Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: $35,000 per annum.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, students must first meet the requirements for postgraduate studies in the course of their choosing, and be non-Australian citizens of another country, excluding New Zealand.

Created via a donation by the late Ms. EA Jenkins, this fund is meant to encourage high-performing students to seek out degrees in environmental sciences. Scholarship submissions will be reviewed and judged based on academic achievement for this scholarship at the University of Western Australia. The student’s research potential, based on previous academic performance, experience, and publications, if applicable. Students will be expected to enroll full-time in environmental science or a similar higher education degree.

2. Forrest Research Foundation Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: $28,597 per annum, plus an accommodation allowance of $21,447 and a research allowance of $12,000.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To apply, applicants must have already applied for and be enrolled full-time for the proposed Ph.D. by the commencement date of the scholarships. Students must have earned a bachelor’s degree of First Class Honors, or equivalent.

The Forrest Research Foundation was established in 2014, with the intention of helping Australia become a world-class center of research. Students who accept this scholarship must reside in Forrest Hall unless an exemption was arranged previously. In addition to a completed online application, scholarship hopefuls must also submit a Curriculum Vitae, copies of their transcripts, four references, and a photograph of themselves.

3. UWA International Fee Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Per-annum tuition coverage, fortnightly allowance, and health insurance.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Applying students must meet the existing requirements for their chosen course of study and not have received an equivalent scholarship.

Applications for this scholarship at the University of Western Australia open on June 14th and close on October 10th. This scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and previously displayed research potential. Additionally, the award amount is decided upon based on competitive rankings. Applications are scored and ranked by the University HDR Scholarships Committee. Upon receipt, successful applicants will become part of a research team working under the tutelage of senior researchers.
