The University of Waterloo is a public research university that can be found in the beautiful city of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. University of Waterloo Scholarships
Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Waterloo
1. Arts Alumni Entrance Scholarship
- Scholarship Amount: $3,000
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Only applicants that have received admission into the University of Waterloo under the Honors Arts or Business courses will be considered eligible. Applicants must also submit proof of high achievement from their previous educational institute.

This is a competitive scholarship and will only be awarded to students of high merit. This University of Waterloo scholarship may be granted once again during the student’s second year of study only if they are able to maintain an overall average of 80%.
There will be no separate application required. Eligible applicants will immediately be shortlisted upon application for enrollment.
2. Bill Harvie Scholarship/ Fellowship
- Scholarship Amount: $5,000
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Eligible applicants will be shortlisted based on academic performance and a strong leadership showcase from their previous courses of study. Only students accepted into Accounting, Financial Management, Mathematics, or Biotechnology courses will be considered.

This scholarship at the University of Waterloo will immediately be granted for only one year. It is possible to extend the grant up to the student’s second, third, and fourth years in exchange for the student’s research and teaching assistance. The student must also maintain a graded average of 80% to be considered for the scholarship grant extension.
Eligible applicants will immediately be notified of their awarding of this scholarship upon enrollment.
3. University of Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship
- Scholarship Amount: $10,000
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. This scholarship may only be awarded to academically outstanding students who receive admission into their chosen program. Only international students that achieve an admission average of 90% will be considered.

There are twenty scholarships to be awarded every year. The student’s previous academic achievements will be taken into account. For Mathematics students, there will be an additional requirement of excellent Euclid Math Contest results.
This scholarship will not require a separate application. Applicants will automatically be considered upon their admission. Applicants that meet the requirements will immediately be notified of their eligibility.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Waterloo
1. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation – Doctoral Scholarship
- Scholarship Amount: $60,000
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to International and Canadian nationals. Applicants must have already applied for and received admission into any Doctoral program majoring in the Humanities or Social Sciences at the University of Waterloo in order to be considered eligible. The applicant’s doctoral work must also relate to one of the Trudeau Foundation’s Themes.

Applicants will be required to submit short essays answering the questions on the application form, be able to provide two recommendations from a qualified academic referee and provide information on their doctoral project. Awarded applicants will also be expected to either already be fluent in or be willing to learn Canada’s major languages, French and English.
This scholarship available at the University of Waterloo will also cover the student’s living expenses, along with a research and travel allowance. Awarded applicants will also be awarded an extra scholarship, known as the President’s Graduate Scholarship.
Interested applicants must apply through the Trudeau Foundation application portal. Applications start on October 12th and end on December 21st.
2. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS)
- Scholarship Amount: $50,000 per year
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. Students may only apply for this scholarship if they receive a nomination from the University of Waterloo. They must also have not completed more than 20 months of study into their doctoral degree and must achieve an outstanding class average.

Only nominated applicants may apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is only valid for one year but may be extended for up to a maximum of three years. The outstanding class average requirement is subjective to the University of Waterloo. Interested students must inquire at the university for exact information.
Applications for students to be nominated varies per institution. The student must reach out to the University of Waterloo for the exact date. The deadline for applicants to be nominated is November 2nd. Late submissions will not be accommodated.
3. International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE)
- Scholarship Amount: $2,500 per term
- Eligibility Criteria: Open to international students only. Interested applicants must have already received acceptance into a Master’s program at the University of Waterloo. The student must showcase academic excellence and continually meet the academic progress requirements of their faculty.

This University of Waterloo scholarship is granted on a per-term basis and is renewable for up to a maximum of five terms. Preference will be given to students entering their first year of study, as well as students that are in research-based programs.
Applicants will automatically be selected based on their compliance with the admission requirements. This scholarship is also allowed to coincide with other scholarships the student may hold.
