University of Twente Scholarships for International Students

The University of Twente is a highly prestigious public technical university in Enschede, Netherlands. It is currently ranked amongst the world’s top 200 research universities. The University of Twente prides itself on its record of excellence and is considered one of Europes finest educational institutes. Additionally, the University of Twente was given the honor of being the Netherlands’ best technical university. The university campus itself is extremely beautiful, being surrounded by woodlands, rivers, and meadows, which allows students to not only pursue their academics but also their leisure.

The university offers about 50 degree programs to choose from al in the fields of nanotechnology, information technology, and biomedical technology, to name a few. The University of Twente also offers many scholarships and is a very diverse university, with about 37% of its students being international students.

Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Twente

1. New Holland Scholarship Australia

  • Scholarship Amount: €2,500
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to Australian nationals only. The applicant must receive an offer of admission into the University of Twente, and is currently enrolled at a partner Australian University.

Before applying, the student’s home university in Australia will decide whether they deem you fit for exchange. From then on, the student must meet the University of Twente admission requirements.

This University of Twente scholarship will only be granted for one semester. After the completion of the study period, the student will be expected to participate in a survey about their experience.

2. UAF: Foundation for Refugee Students

  • Scholarship Amount: Full Study Costs
  • Eligibility Criteria: Only refugees or asylum seekers from countries in areas of conflict will be qualified. Applicants must also have a strong command of either English, Dutch, or French and have already graduated from high school or its equivalent.

The student must also be willing to learn Dutch at a quick pace and be eager to begin their degree.

There is no deadline for application. Applications will be considered all year long.

This scholarship available at the University of Twente will also provide financial support for the student’s book fees and travel expenses. Awarded students will be expected to return part of the financial aid received to help them complete their studies.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Twente

1. University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)

  • Scholarship Amount: €3,000 up to €22,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. To be considered an eligible applicant, the student must have already received an admission letter for a Master’s program at the University of Twente, have not previously attended the university, have acceptable results in an English proficiency exam, and they must be an extremely high-performing individual that belongs in the top 10% of their class.

This is a highly competitive merit-based University of Twente scholarship. Only 50 scholarships are awarded each year. This scholarship is meant as a grant, and it will ultimately be up to students how they spend the amount granted to them. Students awarded this scholarship may also be awarded an additional scholarship, the Kipaji Scholarship.

There will be two application rounds. Students’ applications will only be considered once. Round 1 applications will be from October 15th to February 1st, while round 2 applications will be open from February 1st to May 1st. Students will also be asked to provide their student numbers when applying.

2. ITC Excellence Scholarship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: Partial Tuition Fees
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open only to nationals of countries listed under the OECD List of Recipients of Official Development Assistance. The applicant must have already previously graduated from a well-accredited university outside of the Netherlands, have excellent academic performance, and have received an offer of admission into the Geo-information Science and Earth Observation Master’s program at the university.

Halfway through the student’s course of study, they will have to submit a progress report. The scholarship may be extended into the student’s second year of study if it is proven that they are making significant progress.

There will be two application periods for this scholarship. The first deadline is on February 15th, while the second deadline is on April 12th. All applications must be submitted before these deadlines. The university recommends that the student applies before the first deadline.

3. University of Twente Scholarship powered by ICD

  • Scholarship Amount: €6,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to citizens of EU and non-EU/ EEA countries, excluding Dutch nationals. Interested applicants must first obtain admission into the University of Twente with a major in Analogue or Radio Frequency Circuit Design. Applicants must also be of high academic caliber, is younger than 35 years of age, is unemployed, and complies with the English language proficiency requirement.

ITC Excellence Scholarship Program is an extremely competitive scholarship at the University of Twente, with only two scholarships granted every year. Preference will be given to female students from Southern Europe.

All applications must be submitted before May 1st. The applicants will be required to submit their student numbers during application.

4. NL Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: €5,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Open to all students from non-EU/ EEA countries only. The student must have already received an offer of admission from the University of Twente, is about to begin their first year of study, is able to provide proof that they are an excellent student, and has desirable results from an English language proficiency test.

There will be two application rounds for this scholarship. The first is from October 15th to February 1st, followed by February 1st till May 1st. If the applicant applied during the first round and was rejected, their second-round application will not be considered.

Applications will be made online through the University of Twente student website. As it is a prerequisite that the student has accepted admission into the university, their student number will be required when applying for this scholarship.
