University of Stirling Scholarships for International Students

The University of Stirling, founded in 1967, is an international university located in Stirling, Scotland. They are a renowned institution in the UK and worldwide and are best known for their quality of education and research initiatives. Stirling is organized into five faculties, each of which offering undergraduate to postgraduate study programs and research. Their community is home to over 14,000 students, with roughly 20% of them being foreign enrollees representing over 120 countries.

Numerous awards have been given to the institution throughout the years for different aspects of its service to society. In this article, we will be discussing some of the scholarships offered to international students at the University of Stirling. This is a combination of financial aids offered by the university itself, as well as government-funded and financed by their partner organizations from across the globe.

University of Stirling Scholarships

Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Stirling

1. International Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: GBP 8,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Full-time international undergraduate students

The International Undergraduate Scholarship at the University of Stirling is open to all foreign students enrolling in an undergraduate program. No application is needed as all qualified candidates are automatically considered during the admissions process. If chosen, the student will receive an award totaling GBP 8,000. This is paid in installments– GBP 2,000 is automatically deducted from the fees for four academic years.

2. INTO Stirling Progression Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: GBP 2,000 to GBP 4,000
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Full-time international undergraduate students
    • Successfully completed a relevant INTO pathway program at the INTO University of Stirling center

The INTO Stirling Progression Scholarship is a partnership program between Stirling and INTO, an organization focused on offering support services to students who want to study in the UK, US, or China. There is no application process for this scholarship– all eligible students will automatically be assessed. To qualify, the candidate must have successfully completed an INTO pathway program at the INTO University of Stirling center. In addition, they must have already been accepted into admission in one of the university’s undergraduate programs.

This University of Stirling scholarship amount varies depending on the student’s acquired score from the INTO pathway program. It can range from GBP 2,000 to GBP 4,000 and will be paid in the form of a tuition waiver. This is only applicable to the student’s first year of studies in Stirling.

3. GEMS International Undergraduate Scholarship

The Global Education Management Systems or GEMS is an educational management firm and the largest operator of the K-12 curriculum in the world. Their partnership with Stirling allows students coming from a GEMS education school to pursue an undergraduate program in the university.

All overseas students from any GEMS school are automatically qualified for the scholarship once they accept admission into a Bachelor’s program in Stirling. The scholars will receive a total of GBP 8,000, which will be awarded in installments (GBP 2,000 annually) for four years.

Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Stirling

1. Postgraduate International Excellence Scholarship

The Postgraduate International Excellence Scholarship at the University of Stirling was established as a means to attract outstanding students from all over the world to join their diverse intercultural community. The scholarship is open to all full-time international students enrolled in their first year of Master’s studies. Selected awardees will receive a total of GBP 4,000 in the form of a tuition waiver.

2. International Sports Scholarship Programme

  • Scholarship Amount: Funding support, academic flexibility, coaching, essential equipment, and opportunities to stay on campus

Established in 1981, Stirling’s International Sports Scholarship Program is one of the largest high-performance sports programs in the UK. Student athletes are supported with their chosen sport while they pursue their degree in the university. To apply, the candidate must have already obtained acceptance or is in the process of applying to an undergraduate or postgraduate program in Stirling. Only certain sports are financed however, exceptions are given to those who compete in other sports internationally. The scholarship award includes funding support, academic flexibility, national standard coaching, essential equipment, and opportunities to stay on campus.

3. Commonwealth Shared Scholarships (CSS)

  • Scholarship Amount: tuition fees, living cost stipend, return flights, thesis grant, study travel grant, one-off arrival allowance
  • Eligibility Criteria: Must hold citizenship in one of the eligible Commonwealth countries

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships encourages international students to grab this opportunity to experience the country’s educational system and rich culture. The scholarship is the result of the initiative between universities in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

CSS is open to all foreign candidates from one of the scholarship’s eligible countries who are keen to take up a full-time Master’s degree in Scotland. Interested students can pursue their postgraduate studies in the fields of business, technology, healthcare and medical sciences, and renewable and clean energy. This University of Stirling scholarship covers the study and living expenses of the student, as well as other miscellaneous expenses such as thesis grants and travel allowance. To apply, an online application must be filled out, and the announcement of acceptance will be carried out by the university to which the student accepted admission.
