The University of Salerno began its history in 1944 when they were first called the Istituto Universitario di Magistero “Giovanni Cuomo”. After its ownership was transferred to the state, the name changed to Facoltà di Magistero dell’Università degli Studi di Salerno. At the time, the institution only focused on teacher training, until it slowly opened its doors to other fields of study and later on formed a major university. The University of Salerno has two campuses, both located in Salerno, Italy. Its main campus in Fisciano houses all the university’s faculties, except for their medical school which is in Baronissi. The university is divided into a total of 10 faculties, offering undergraduate to postgraduate degrees as well as specialization courses. The University of Salerno is ranked 6th amongst Italy’s large state universities based on CENSIS. The university also takes pride in being a green institution– they are ranked 12th in Italy and 214th in the world by the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Salerno

1. Erasmus+ student mobility for studies

The Erasmus+ student mobility for studies encourages students from all over the world to spend a part of their education in another participating country/university. This program aims to bridge cultural barriers and give its recipients a broader academic experience that will mold them to be better professionals in the future.

To qualify for this scholarship available at the University of Salerno, the student must be nominated by their home university. Once selected, the student can spend 3 to 12 months in the partner university they applied to. The Erasmus+ award will cover the tuition fee as well as travel and living expenses incurred during their stay. The student’s grades during the exchange program will be converted to the equivalent of their home institution’s grading system to be credited to their degree completion.

Another Erasmus+ program that University of Salerno participates in is the International Credit Mobility – KA 107. This provides funding for students carrying out mobility activities such as study or traineeships. 3. ADISURC Scholarships

The ADISURC (Azienda per il Diritto allo Studio della Regione Campania) Scholarship is a government-funded aid for students who are enrolled in one of the universities in Campagnia, Italy. This the University of Salerno scholarship prioritizes awarding those who are economically disadvantaged and high-achieving students.

Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Salerno

1. University of Salerno Scholarship Program for international master students

The University of Salerno Scholarship Program is open to all foreign Master’s students who completed their undergraduate studies at a university abroad. Interested candidates must submit their applications online and selection will be made by the Academic board. In some cases, additional requirements may be asked for such as interviews or language certifications to better assess the candidates. For students who are keen to take an English-taught program, an English level B2 certificate is required. Students enrolling in an Italian-taught program must have an Italian level B2 certificate. The scholarship award includes a free 50-hour Italian language course, free meals at the university’s cafeteria, and accommodation in their Halls of Residence.

2. Scholarships for Advanced Studies on the Age and Culture of the Baroque

The Age and the Culture of Baroque Fellowship Program is offered to postgraduate students who are interested in doing research on the subject. The program is open to all candidates who hold a postgraduate degree from an Italian university, or an equivalent diploma from abroad.

Four awards amounting to EUR 23,000 are available annually. This will be paid in three installments. Applications and the research proposal are sent online and will be assessed by appointed experts in the foundation.

3. Italian Government Grant

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers scholarships each year to students who want to pursue their postgraduate studies in a public or legally recognized Italian institution. This scholarship available at the University of Salerno seeks to increase international cooperation between Italy and its partner countries and boost the Italian economic system.

All foreign degree holders who meet the age requirement can apply for a Master’s, Ph.D., or research project grant. Language proficiency certificates are also required for either English or Italian courses, whichever the student has applied to. The selection of grantees is made on the basis of the submitted entry requirements, academic achievements, and candidates’ CVs. Awardees will be covered by health and medical insurance and will receive a monthly allowance of EUR 900 throughout the grant. Exemption from tuition fee payment is also possible, depending on the university’s policies.
