Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Oslo

1. Free Tuition

Most of Norway’s state-funded universities, like the University of Oslo, offer free tuition for all of its students, even international students. This is because their government considers that higher education is essential for society and thus must be accessible for the majority.

However, while tuition fees may no longer be your problem in UiO, living expenses might compensate for that since Norway is an expensive and high-cost country to live in. 2. The Erasmus+ Grant

    • Your home institution must have an agreement of cooperation with UiO

The Erasmus+ Grant is a program funded by the European Union that allows students from different countries to study in European universities, including Norwegian universities such as UiO, starting 2015. It intends to help its scholars to develop skills, foster their professional development, and expand their perspective of different cultures. 3. Norwegian-Russian Scholarship

    • Russian citizens
    • Currently enrolled and is a staff/teacher at a Russian higher education institution

Every year, 30 Russian students get to study for one semester or two in the University of Oslo International Summer School through the Norwegian-Russian scholarship offered by Diku. Usually, of these 30 grants, 15 are set aside for students studying language and literature, while the other 15 are for those pursuing other studies. The monthly grant benefit varies per year, and the benefits that cover the course fee and course books are exclusive to UiO.

Students must submit application forms to both Diku and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Applicants may be asked to submit high school certificates or transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and proof of proficiency in Norwegian. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation evaluates and nominates applicants to be assessed by Diku. UiO then conducts the final assessment and gives the decision. Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Oslo

1. Norwegian-Chinese Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount:
    • 21,600 NOK per month
    • Additional 1000 NOK per month
    • One round trip airfare ticket
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Chinese Citizen
    • PhD-student or academic staff member of a Chinese higher educational institution
    • Meet the language and academic requirements of UiO

Diku offers the Norwegian-Chinese Scholarships to help develop and foster bonds between China and Norway through a yearly exchange of 20 students and researchers (10 from each country). Thus, every year, 10 Chinese scholars or Ph.D. candidates get the chance to avail of this University of Oslo scholarship that lasts for ten months. However, it is possible to extend the scholarship, should the individual wish to do so. Both Norway and China shoulder this setup.

Interested students must submit an application form to Diku and another one to the China Scholarship Council. Other mandatory documents include a curriculum vitae, letter of recommendation, letter of invitation, and list of publications (if applicable). The China Scholarship Council will then evaluate the applicants and nominate candidates, who Diku will then assess. Accepted applicants will then be informed if they will be awarded the scholarship. 2. The Dame Gillian Brown Postgraduate Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: £2,000
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • British citizens with Honours degree or equivalent
    • Postgraduate study in the field of Norwegian literature, history, music, or translation studies
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD

The namesake of this scholarship, Dame Gillian Brown, was a former Ambassador to Norway and the Chairman of the Anglo-Norse Society. This scholarship supports students pursuing postgraduate studies in Norwegian literature, history, music, or translation studies.

3. Scandinavian Stipend Foundation

    • Fluent English speaker & at least conversational in Scandinavian
