Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Regina

1. University of Regina International Entrance Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: $3000 tuition fee reduction
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • must be applying directly from secondary school to the University of Regina
    • must be an international student paying international student fees
    • must have an admission score of 85% or higher

The International Entrance Scholarship is one of the few scholarships at the University of Regina specifically for international students. It is awarded to those graduating from secondary school (or equivalent) and applying directly to any undergraduate program. Those who wish to receive this scholarship should have an early-conditional admission score of 85% and above. They must also be enrolling in at least nine credits for their first semester.

There is no separate application for this scholarship. Anybody that fits the criteria will be considered for this award, and the tuition fee reduction should be automatically applied to your offer letter from the university. There is an annual budget of $200000, however, so everyone who fits the criteria may not be given the scholarship.

2. University of Regina Students’ Union International Award

  • Scholarship Amount: $2500
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • must be an international student with a valid Canadian study permit
    • registered for nine credits for the current semester and must have completed at least 30 credits in total; minimum UGPA of 75%
    • is involved with the University of Regina Students’ Union

This scholarship at the University of Regina is awarded to outstanding international students with a record of extracurricular activities and community involvement. To obtain this scholarship, a candidate must maintain a minimum UGPA of 75% and should be highly involved with the Students’ Union (i.e., as an active member of a club, society, or volunteer team).

Applications are done online through the university’s online undergraduate scholarship application portal, SAMS. Log in with your university account and use the search bar to look for this particular award. Once you’ve accessed the specific page and read through all the details, click on “Apply for Award” at the top-right corner of your screen. This will direct you to the application form.

The most important bit of the application will be your personal statement. Here, you will be highlighting all of the activities you have done thus far as a member of the Students’ Union. You should emphasize various programs you’ve organized, how many societies you are a member of, how many activities you’ve participated in, and any other detail that will show your community engagement. Submit all requirements by the indicated deadline.

If awarded, the recipient must consent to their contact details being shared with the Students’ Union. They are also obligated to participate in any promotional activities the university may have.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Regina

1. Anne Rigney Scholarship

  • Eligibility Criteria: must be entering their first year of graduate studies at the University of Regina

The Anne Rigney Scholarship is one of the University of Regina’s highly prestigious grants, with the award worth $7200. It is awarded to any first-time graduate student at the university. You must already hold an unconditional offer before you can apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is primarily merit-based, but special consideration will be given to those with financial needs.

Applications are done online through the university’s postgraduate scholarship application portal, GAP. Like SAMS, you must log in with your university account and use the search bar to find the Anne Rigney Scholarship. Here, you will find more details about the scholarship and the link to the application form on the top-right corner of the page.

Aside from filling out the online application form, you will be asked to upload three important documents. The first document will be the “Current Registration & List of Courses (Unofficial Transcript)” from the University of Regina Self Service. This is a list of classes you have taken and will be taking for the upcoming semester. The second requirement is academic transcripts from your latest university with a conversion table or a grading key. Lastly, the third document is a one-page statement letter indicating your financial need. Here, you can talk about why you need the scholarship and how you would make full use it. The University of Regina awards only one scholarship per year, so take great care in composing your statement.

Submit all requirements by the indicated deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. If awarded the scholarship, you may be asked to send a thank you letter to show your gratitude for the scholarship.

2. Centennial 2011 Legacy Award

  • Scholarship Amount: $4450
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • must be enrolled in at least six credits for the current semester; must have completed at least six credits in total before application
    • must have a minimum GPA of 80%
    • must have excellent leadership skills and community involvement

The Centennial 2011 Legacy Award was established in 2011 to celebrate the University of Regina’s 100th anniversary. It awards students who exemplify the university values—they must have a combination of good academic performance, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.

Applications are done online through GAP. Search for the University of Regina’s scholarship page to find more information on the award and the link to the application form on the top-right corner of the page. Fill out all necessary fields in the application form before uploading your supporting documents.

Like the Anne Rigney Scholarship, you will be uploading your “Current Registration & List of Courses (Unofficial Transcript)” and academic transcripts (with grade key) from your last institution. Additionally, you must also write a one-page statement letter that highlights your leadership skills and community involvement. Here, you can talk about how you’ve demonstrated leadership qualities while in community service, or how involved you have been in the Students’ Union.
