2. Ernst Göhner Scholarships for Science

The Ernst Göhner Scholarships for Science is intended to help students dedicate their time fully to their studies through financial aid. This scholarship is awarded to six students every year. It may be renewed up until ten (10) semesters only.

3. Heyning-Roelli Foundation

    • Enrolled at partner university
    • Accepted for 1-2 exchange semesters in the University of Bern
    • Unable to afford studies without financial assistance

The Swiss Government Excellence PhD Scholarships are intended to support international students pursuing graduate studies in Switzerland. This scholarship available at the University of Bern is only valid for full-time studies in Switzerland. The offer is applicable for 12 months but extendable to 36 months, subject to approval and based on academic results. The benefits of health insurance and flight allowance are offered only to students from non-EU and non-EFTA countries.

Students who are recipients of another Swiss Government scholarship or have been in Switzerland for more than a year at the start of the scholarship implementation are not eligible for this offer. Students will be judged based on their profile, capacity, motivation, research project, and academic context. The Swiss Government offers the Swiss Government Excellence Research Scholarship to encourage international students to pursue their PhD studies in the country. The University of Bern is among the list of schools the applicant may enroll in when awarded the scholarship. The offer is only valid for full-time research in Switzerland, with no possible funding for fieldwork. This scholarship available at the University of Bern is applicable for up to 12 months only. The same application guidelines and conditions of ineligibility that apply for the Swiss Government Excellence PhD scholarships apply for this scholarship.

3. Annual Scholarship from the Swiss Study Foundation

  • Scholarship Amount: 500 CHF – 20,000 CHF
  • Eligibility Criteria: recipient of the Swiss Study Foundation
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD

The Annual Scholarship is applicable for all disciplines and may be used for studies or research. It is funded by the ERI embassy of the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation. Only successful applicants for the Swiss Study Foundation are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The benefits will depend on the length of stay, with 20,000 CHF applicable for one to two years of studies, while shorter stays will receive 500 CHF to 5,000 CHF.
