Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Kent

1. Kent Scholarship for Academic Excellence

  • Scholarship Amount: 2,000 GBP.
  • Eligibility Criteria: All students accepted in a first-year undergraduate course of the university (excluding courses under Kent and Medway Medical School and Medway School of Pharmacy); With at least A*AA grade in A levels or equivalent; Not participating in Higher Degree Apprenticeship.

The Kent Scholarship for Academic Excellence is a merit-based scholarship awarded to deserving students accepted in their first-year undergraduate course of the university. They must meet certain qualifying grades in major exams, such as at least an A*AA grade in A levels or equivalent. No additional applications are needed as all applicants are immediately evaluated upon enrollment. Accepted scholars will be informed via KentVision portal and will receive 2,000 GBP good for 1 year of study. The scholarship may be used along with other university scholarships.

Exceptions to eligibility apply. This Kent University scholarship excludes courses under Kent and Medway Medical School, Medway School of Pharmacy, and those with Higher Degree Apprenticeship. It also excludes those who have already obtained a previous undergraduate course.

2. Kent Success Scholarships for International Undergraduate Students

  • Scholarship Amount: 2,000 GBP.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Fee-paying students; At least AAA at A levels or equivalent; confirmed acceptance to any undergraduate course at the university within the deadline.

The Kent Success Scholarships for International Undergraduate Students are open to all students who have confirmed acceptance to any undergraduate course at the university within the deadline. Up to 20 students each year may receive a one-time subsidy of 2,000 GBP. Eligible applicants must submit via KentVision portal an essay of 500 words maximum, answering, “Why you feel you should be awarded the scholarship and how you might support Kent in its efforts as a global institution.” Applications will be evaluated based on the essay and academic performance to date.

3. International Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

  • Scholarship Amount: 3,000 GBP.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Fee-paying students; At least AAA at A levels or equivalent; confirmed acceptance to any undergraduate course at the university within the deadline.

The International Scholarships for Undergraduate Students is very similar to the Kent Success scholarships, the only difference being that accepted scholars stand to receive a higher subsidy amount of 3,000 GBP. This Kent University scholarship is open to all students who have given a timely acceptance to any undergraduate course at the university. Up to 20 spots are open each year. Eligible applicants must submit via KentVision portal an essay of 500 words maximum, answering, “Why you feel you should be awarded the scholarship and how you might support Kent in its efforts as a global institution.” Applications will be evaluated based on the essay and academic performance to date.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Kent

1. Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Varies.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Holder of a degree from the university; Accepted in a full or part-time Ph.D. research degree at the university; With contributions to the university community; Excellent oral and written communication.

The Alumni Postgraduate Research Scholarship is an initiative started by the alumni of the University of Kent in 1995 to support current and future alumni in further studies. One scholarship is awarded yearly to a holder of a previous degree from the university (Undergraduate or Master’s) and is accepted in a full or part-time Ph.D. research degree at the university. The student must have contributions to the wider university community via Students’ Union activities or university committees. He must also have excellent oral and written communication to defend his research effectively.

Interested students may apply for this Kent University scholarship by uploading their curriculum vitae, a supporting statement of no more than two A4 pages, and academic references. A Zoom meeting will also be scheduled for shortlisted applicants. Applicants will be deliberated based on their academic performance and impact on the university community.

The accepted student will receive a scholarship equal to the tuition fees at the home rate and a maintenance grant at par with the UK Research Councils. Since the scholarship is meant to match current year rates, the total value varies. This scholarship will be offered yearly, for a maximum of three years. The applicant must also serve as a university ambassador – attending alumni events and being featured in the university publication – and assist in fundraising for succeeding scholars.

2. Bill Jenkins Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 3,000 GBP.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Students accepted for Master’s at the School of Social Policy, Sociology, and Social Research at the University of Kent with financial need.

The Bill Jenkins Scholarship is awarded yearly to one student enrolled in Master’s at the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the University of Kent who has also demonstrated financial need. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for this Kent University scholarship. Priority will be given to candidates on the MA International Social Policy. Interested applicants should email a supporting statement of no more than 500 words explaining their motivations for pursuing their Master’s degree and how the scholarship would benefit them.

3. Blackbaud Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 2,500 GBP.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Accepted in Master’s of Arts in Philanthropic Studies; Holder of a 2:1 first degree or equivalent; Working in a small charity; With financial need.
  • Degree Offered: Master’s.

The Blackbaud Scholarship is developed by Blackbaud, a software developer for non-profit organizations. The company aims to sponsor future talents in philanthropy through a 2,500 GBP scholarship to be paid out across two years as financial assistance. Students who are accepted in Master’s of Arts in Philanthropic Studies and a holder of a 2:1 first degree or equivalent are welcome to apply. He must also work for a small charity with an annual turnover of less than 1 million GBP, and demonstrate financial need. To communicate one’s intent for the scholarship, students must submit a cover letter detailing how they meet the criteria via email.
