1. Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship for Foreign Students

  • Scholarship Amount: Partial tuition fee reduction, a monthly stipend for one academic year, and basic health insurance

The Cultural and Scientific Division of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers a scholarship program for international students from countries with cultural and special bilateral agreements to Israel. This scholarship program is aiming to foster a sense of strong academic exchange between countries, especially in science, technology, and cultural research.

For postgraduate coursework students, both master’s and doctoral, the scholarship program offers a partial tuition fee reduction and eight months’ worth of cost of living allowances to international students for one academic year. For eligibility to apply for the scholarship, students must be an A2 student visa holder issued by the Israeli embassy. Applicants must also hold a Bachelor’s degree and shall be under the age of 35.

Applicants holding an offer to any postgraduate degree in the University of Haifa, with all the mentioned qualifications satisfied, shall notify their local Israeli embassy for assistance in the scholarship application. Applicants shall prepare the following documents, as requested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: a duly accomplished application form, curriculum vitae, transcript of records, and reference letters. Successful applicants will be notified via writing through the notice of their local Israeli embassy and shall automatically receive the benefits of the scholarship upon admission to the University of Haifa.

2. University of Haifa Need-Based Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Maximum scholarship grant of $9,980
  • Eligibility Criteria: A master’s degree offer holder, enrolled with an International Student status

With the visible need for scholarship opportunities dedicated to financially-disadvantaged postgraduate students, the University of Haifa – International School opened a need-based scholarship program to support their studies. This scholarship shall be available to currently enrolled students and to postgraduate degree offer holders in a program offered by the University of Haifa – International School.

As a needs-based scholarship program, applicants must demonstrate financial need to support their studies, to be reflected by the income bracket of the applicant’s guardians. Aside from this, applicants must also demonstrate academic achievement and willingness to participate in volunteering programs hosted by the University of Haifa.

Applicants satisfying the mentioned criteria are requested to submit their application forms and other supporting documents via email for screening and verification purposes. The Scholarship Selection Committee will evaluate applicants based on their financial needs and academic merit. Qualified applicants will be notified and shall receive a total cash grant of $9,980.

Grantees of the Need-Based Scholarship may also seek other financial assistance programs, given that the amount they will be receiving would not exceed their tuition fees, including service fees. Grantees are also required to participate in volunteering programs hosted by the university, and shall automatically serve as ambassadors for the university within their home countries.

3. Presidential Merit Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Scholarship grant of $4,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: Currently enrolled international students with at least 3.8 GPA score
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and Doctoral coursework degrees

The Presidential Merit Scholarship Program is a merit-based competitive scholarship grant open to all University of Haifa students currently enrolled in postgraduate coursework, both masters and doctoral, with a GPA score of at least 3.8, and demonstrated a potential to be a future leader in their respective fields of study.

Academic merit and leadership potential are the two qualities that a presidential merit scholar should possess. And to assess these two qualifications, applicants for the scholarship grant must submit a curriculum vitae including the list of awards and distinctions they garnered throughout their study. Applicants should also prepare a personal statement essay, demonstrating their capacity to lead, and their commitment to innovation within their respective fields. These two requirements, along with a duly filled application form, shall be submitted via email.

Applicants will then be screened, and successful applicants will receive a tuition fee waiver amounting to $4,000, given in $2,000 installments per semester. Grantees shall enjoy the scholarship grant for one academic year and can be received in conjunction with the benefits of other financial assistance programs.

Receiving the scholarship grant would also mean that grantees are obliged to participate in various volunteering activities hosted by the university throughout their stay as part of the scholarship’s return of service agreement.

4. Council for Higher Education of Israel’s Ph.D. Sandwich Scholarship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: Scholarship grant of 80,000 NIS for one academic year
  • Eligibility Criteria: Doctoral degree students overseas, with an intent to continue their studies in Israel

Integration of international students within the Israeli academic community has been one of the points of emphasis in the bigger internationalization plan of Israel’s Council for Higher Education. With this in mind, the agency generously opened the Ph.D. Sandwich Scholarship program to international students who took their first doctoral year overseas and wished to pursue further studies and conduct research within the campuses of the University of Haifa.

Unlike other postgraduate scholarship programs, the Ph.D. Sandwich Scholarship program seeks to sponsor students who finished their first year of doctoral study within their home countries. Aside from finishing a year of study abroad, interested applicants must also haven’t piloted their doctoral research overseas, nor have they completed their research within Israel upon application.

As a competitive scholarship grant at the University of Haifa, applicants are screened based on their academic merit, reflected by their grades in their first doctoral year. Applicants must also showcase a novel and feasible research idea they plan to pursue during their stay at the University of Haifa. Both of these will be evaluated by the scholarship selection committee, and shall only select a few grantees to enjoy a scholarship grant of 80,000 NIS for one academic year.

The Masa Israel Grant has built its reputation of being one of the most prestigious scholarship grants, and a pioneer in immersive educational scholarship programs dedicated for Jewish young adults wanting to pursue postgraduate coursework at the University of Haifa.

This one-of-a-kind scholarship program does not only provide scholarship grants to support an applicant’s coursework, but also provides them with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Israeli culture and the vibrant communities surrounding the campuses. This scholarship also offers free Hebrew language lessons as covered by their weekly Uplan classes.

Applicants for this University of Haifa scholarship may seek to apply for a postgraduate coursework program under the following themes: innovation and entrepreneurship, Middle Eastern studies, diplomacy, security, and conflict management, science and technology, engineering, and Jewish studies. Applicants will also be screened based on their financial need to estimate the amount of the grant to be given to each applicant.
