The University of Bergen is one of Norway’s four ‘established universities’ and is in the country’s second-largest city. Although there are no tuition fees, students are asked to pay a semester fee of around $70. 1. The Erasmus+ Grant

The amount you receive is fixed and depends on which country you are coming from. If you are intending on studying in a country outside Europe, you are also eligible for a travel grant. 2. Student Bequests at the University of Bergen

1. MA Thesis Scholarships in Islamic Law

  • Scholarship Amount: up to 20,000 NOK
  • Eligibility Criteria: plan to write a master’s thesis in Arabic, law, history, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, or political science,

This is a great opportunity for those who are planning on writing a thesis in Islamic Law at the University of Bergen. Awardees will be granted 20,000 NOK (over 2,000 USD) to help them with their studies.

To acquire this University of Bergen scholarship, you will need to write a letter of motivation, a CV, a description of your thesis topic, a budget/ plan for your expenses. Favor will be given to those who already have some knowledge of Arabic, but it is not essential. You will also need to source a supervisor for your master’s thesis.

2. Mobility Grant for Norwegian Language and Literature

If you are looking into Norwegian Language or Literature as the topic for a master’s or Ph.D. thesis, then this is a great scholarship for you. This scholarship is offered to students who are currently studying at a university outside Norway but want to visit the country to enhance their studies.

The money is to assist with board and lodging is for between one and three months, you also get your travel to and from Norway covered. If you are awarded this grant, you must submit a report about the fieldwork that you completed.

3. American Scandinavian Foundation Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: funds for project-related costs, maintenance requirements, travel costs, money for necessary materials
  • Eligibility Criteria: hold citizenship or permanent residency in America and completed an undergraduate degree

These University of Bergen scholarships are for students who are looking to pursue research or a project in any Scandinavian country. There are three-month grants for post-graduates available and fellowships available to students wanting to complete a year-long stay.

You must complete an ASF application form to acquire the scholarship. This requires you to define and outline your stay and why is it essential your complete research in Norway/ Scandinavia. You also must have three letters of recommendation and an invite from the university you want to attend to be considered.

4. Fulbright Norwegian Graduate Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 10-month grant (amount not yet specified)
  • Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must have held a B.A/B.S before the beginning of their studies and hold citizenship in the USA

Fulbright provide scholarships to American students looking to study abroad. There are several Fulbright Norway scholarships on offer that provide teaching experiences in Norway. For instance, the American Literature and Culture scholarship provides the opportunity to teach and /or research with the university’s English Department.

The standard Graduate Scholarship offers travel assistance and a monthly stipend. It is open to graduate students from all subjects and preference is given to those who have previous academic success.
