Tampere University Scholarships for International Students

The Tampere Universities, established in 2019, is a merger between Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. They are both separate but collaborative institutions with differing strengths and focuses in the academic field. Tampere University is known to be one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland who represents almost all internationally-recognized fields of study. They offer undergraduate programs taught entirely in English, Master’s and Doctoral programs, and an Open University for short courses. Tampere University also holds high value to research especially in the areas of technology, health, and society.

Tampere University, as the second-largest university in Finland, is home to over 20,000 students and 4,000 faculty members. They are one of the highest-ranked universities in the country, placing 4th in the Center for World University Rankings and 5th in the Times Higher Education.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Tampere University

1. Tampere University tuition fee scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fee waiver

The tuition fee scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship for students interested in pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at Tampere University. Applications for this Tampere University scholarship are submitted online along with the candidate’s application for admission. It must also include an application letter discussing their motivation and interest in the program they are applying to and documentation of their academic achievements.

The best candidates will be chosen by the committee and will receive notification of their scholarship acceptance together with their acceptance to their chosen study. The award covers the students’ full tuition. Continuation of the scholarship shall proceed if the scholar earns at least 55 credits throughout the academic year. Failure to comply with this pre-requisite will lower the scholarship value to 50% or total revocation.

2. Early bird offer

The early bird offer is open to all undergraduate and Master’s eligible international students. To receive the award, the candidate must confirm acceptance into their chosen program and pay 50% of their tuition fee within two weeks after receiving their admission offer. The early bird offer provides a 50% tuition fee discount on the student’s first year of studies.

3. Tampere University International Advancement Scholarship

  • Eligibility Criteria: International students who are citizens of countries outside the EU and EEA or Switzerland

The Tampere University International Advancement Scholarship is awarded to eligible international students who are able to complete their studies on time. The target completion for a Bachelor’s program is three years, and two for a Master’s program. Students who complete at least 60 ECTS of studies within an academic year are also qualified for this Tampere University scholarship.

The International Advancement Scholarship is valued at EUR 1,500. This will be paid on the autumn semester following the student’s completion of ECTS, or upon graduation. It is possible to receive the scholarship more than once if the enrollee consistently meets the qualifications.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Tampere University

1. Fulbright-Tampere University Graduate Award

The Fullbright-Tampere University Graduate Award is granted to students from the United States who want to complete a Master’s degree in the university. To be eligible, the candidate must be a US citizen and must hold a Bachelor’s degree. In some special cases, exceptional students are allowed to apply even before they have their diplomas on hand.

Applications for the scholarship are submitted in conjunction with the application for admission at Tampere University. Each year, two scholars are chosen to receive the award, which is decided on by the Fullbright Finland Foundation. The scholarship coverage includes a full-tuition exemption, a monthly grant of EUR 1,000, a travel award of USD 1,600, a residence permit allowance, and a supplemental accident and sickness benefit. Continuation of the scholarship on the student’s second year of studies will be approved based on their academic performance.

2. Finland Scholarship

The Finland Scholarship allows aspiring students from non-EU/EEA countries to pursue a Master’s degree in a participating Finnish institution, one of which is Tampere University. To apply for this scholarship available at Tampere University, the student must submit their scholarship application at the same time they submit their admissions application at the university. Aside from this, an application letter and other merit documents must be included and will be part of the assessment by the selection committee.

The Finland Scholarship covers the full tuition fee of its recipients in their first year and provides a relocation allowance of EUR 5,000. In their second year of studies, the student will be granted the Tampere University tuition fee scholarship, which also covers 100% of the tuition fee cost.
