Undergraduate Scholarships at Reykjavik University

1. Reykjavik University Dean’s List

• Scholarship Amount: Tuition fee waiver for one semester
• Eligibility Criteria: Open to all nationals. For existing students enrolled at Reykjavik University. The student must be studying at the university full time. The student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) will be taken into account, and the highest-scoring individuals will be eligible.

During the calculation of the student’s cumulative grade point average, only their first attempt at an examination will be considered. The Dean’s Listers will be announced on the university website. Students that make it on the list will have their tuition fees waived for the next semester only.

There is no application for this Reykjavik University scholarship, and qualified individuals will immediately be informed of their qualifications for this grant.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Reykjavik University

1. The Joint Japan/ World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/ WBGSP)

• Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fees and a monthly allowance
• Eligibility Criteria: Open to nationals from the World Bank developing country list. They must not hold dual citizenship. The applicant must have already received an unconditional offer of admission into Reykjavik University. Lastly, they must have attained their Bachelor’s degree at least 3 years prior to application. Lastly, the applicant must have at least 3 years of development-related work experience and are in good health condition.

Applicants will be assessed according to their academic and personal achievements. Those with the highest potential in impacting the development of their home countries after graduation will be given preference.

This scholarship available at Reykjavik University will be granted for 2 years or until the student completes their studies. The scholarship will also cover the student’s travel fees, an additional $500 travel allowance, medical insurance, monthly rent, and living expenses. The allowance amount to be granted will depend on the calculated living expenses in Reykjavik.

This scholarship is only applicable to selected areas of study. The list of eligible programs will be updated every year before the opening of the application period.

2. IPCC Scholarship Program

• Scholarship Amount: Up to $20,000 per year
• Eligibility Criteria: Open to nationals of a developing country. The applicant must have already received an offer of admission into Reykjavik University and have completed the enrollment process. The applicant must also be younger than 30 years of age at the time of application. Lastly, the applicant must be well-decorated in terms of personal and academic achievements and are able to present the proposal for their research.

Priority will be given to students that fall under the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The topic of the applicant’s research must be related or is able to make advancements in the scientific understanding of the risks of climate change and the like, or its potential impacts and solutions for adaptation or mitigation.

Along with the application form for this Reykjavik University scholarship, applicants will be required to submit a detailed estimate budget required to carry out their research. The amount granted will be based on this report.

3. Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership Scholarship

• Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fees
• Eligibility Criteria: Open to citizens of a developing country. The applicant must have received an offer of admission into Reykjavik University and are taking their Master’s degree in studies in the sustainable energy category. Lastly, the student must be an academically outstanding student who graduated in the top 20% of their class, is able to provide proof of extracurricular and personal achievements, and is committed to sustainable energy development.

The applicant will also be required to submit a copy of their university admission letter along with their application form. They will also be required to submit an outline of the courses they will be taking for their Master’s program, university transcripts, and a reference letter from an academic referee.

Only 10 applicants are awarded this scholarship available at Reykjavik University every year, making this an extremely competitive scholarship.

This scholarship may be granted for up to a maximum of 2 years. All applications must be completed online through the online application portal. The application period will open in January, but as the exact date varies, interested applicants will be responsible for checking for updates on the scholarship website.

Applications must be submitted in full with all the required documents. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered. Applications sent via email or through the mail will not be accepted either.
