Ohio State University has a variety of merit-based scholarships available for prospective undergraduate and graduate students that are not from the United States. International students looking to enroll at OSU are encouraged to seek scholarships directly from the department they intend to apply for. Scholarships specific to certain majors and schools are accessed on this page.

Additionally, short-term financial aid is given to qualifying international students through the Office of International Affairs.

International students pursuing an undergraduate degree at OSU can apply to several scholarships. Information on scholarships offered in each department is available here.

Information on other scholarships can be obtained through the Scholarship Universe. The Scholarship Universe provides a scholarship matching tool for students to find financial opportunities that they are eligible for. This search tool can be accessed once admitted into OSU.

The university has a department that seeks out external and internal fellowship opportunities for undergraduate students.

1. Global Education Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: $3,000 Award

This type of Ohio State University scholarship allows students to pursue a global education. There are ten different scholarships to apply for depending on the student’s interest, field, and eligibility. Only the completion of one common application is required to be considered for all the scholarships under the Global Education Program. Some scholarships require a minimum GPA, financial need, or a specific degree to be considered.

Scholarships classified under the Global Education Scholarship Program include the O-H-I-O Global Education Scholarship. This provides scholars an award of $3,000 to fund their study abroad program. Priority is given to first-year and second-year applicants of this Global Education Scholarship.

2. Hungtington International Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: Minimum of $500 per award

The Hungtington International Scholarship is for sophomore students interested in international commerce. Scholars will be exposed to opportunities to enrich their academic experience in other countries. Internships in the commercial business setting will also be available to recipients of this award.

The financial award may vary depending on the competitiveness of the student’s application and the availability of funds.

3. Education Abroad Scholarship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: $1,000 Cash Award

This scholarship was created for students who have no prior experience of traveling abroad but demonstrate a strong interest in enriching their academic experience through the Global Education Scholarship Program.

All students enrolled at USO with good academic standing are eligible for the scholarship regardless of their degree. Recipients of the scholarship must be engaged in any Office of Diversity and Inclusion program or service.

4. Susan Huntington Dean’s Distinguished University Fellowship

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition, living stipend, health insurance, fees, and other benefits

The Dean’s Distinguished University Fellowship is a form of graduate recruitment fellowship. This Ohio State University scholarship is designed to encourage diversity and excellence among the students of OSU’s graduate school.

Recipients of the fellowship are selected purely on an academic merit basis. The financial need of the candidate is disregarded. Candidates are nominated by the student’s graduate program and by the Graduate Studies Committee.

Fellows must maintain good academic progress and be in good standing with their program while under the fellowship.

5. Graduate Associateships

  • Scholarship Amount: full tuition, $28,373 yearly stipend, health insurance, fees for technology and equipment, other benefits

Graduates Assistantships are a form of Ohio State University scholarship that is available for all graduate students at OSU. Graduate associateships at OSU can be Graduate Administrative Associateships, Graduate Research Associateships, And Graduate Teaching Associateships.

Students must be making satisfactory academic progress and have certification in their proficiency in English to qualify for any graduate associateship. Stipend may vary depending on the appointing unit for the associateships. However, there is a minimum of $19,280 for a nine-month appointment.

6. Shoenbaum Internship Program

  • Scholarship Amount: $2,775 per semester

This Internship Program offers students of the College of Education and Human Ecology a chance to gain first-hand experience with early childhood learning. Selected interns for the program can work as assistant teachers at the Schoenbaum Family Center. The ideal candidate should be able to work 20 hours per week and be interested in gaining experience with classroom management and curriculum development and implementation.

The award for the internship varies depending on the number of hours rendered by the student.

7. Mildred Munday Scholarship

  • Eligible Degrees: Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Degree
  • Scholarship Amount: $3,000 for tuition fees

This Ohio State University scholarship is awarded to students majoring in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies who demonstrate a strong commitment to their field of interest. Applicants must be at least in their second year of study.

Interested applicants must be in good academic standing to be eligible for the scholarship. Requirements to apply include completion of the Mildred Munday Scholarship application form, a personal statement, an advising report, and one letter of recommendation from a professor.

The scholarship is funded by private donors, OSU faculty, and alumni of the university.
