There are various financial resources for all of NU’s students, from undergraduate to doctoral degrees. In addition, incoming first-year international students can automatically apply for merit-based scholarships as part of their undergraduate admission.

1. Dean’s Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: $10,000-$28,000 annually

Northeastern University offers merit-based scholarships to its international students, one of which is the Dean’s Scholarship. It is a competitive scholarship that only accepts 10-15% of students from applicants. This scholarship provides financial awards that range from $10,000 to $28,000 annually for the first year. As the scholars continue their studies, awards will round up to $5,000 to $14,000 per semester, given that they maintain the requirements. The financial awards depend on the students’ financial aid packages.

2. International Scholars Award

The International Scholars Award is one of Northeastern University’s merit-based scholarship programs for international students. Like the Dean’s Scholarship, the International Scholars Award is prestigious and competitive; only 10-15% of the applicants are selected considering other qualifications, such as high school GPA, academic achievements, and more. Scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.0 for the duration of their stay at NU. If selected, they will receive financial awards that range from $10,000 to $28,000 annually and will increase to $5,000 to $14,000 per semester in their succeeding years.

3. Full-Circle Scholarship

Graduate students at Northeastern University can apply to the Full-Circle Scholarship, given that they completed a term of service with one of the following organizations: Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Teach for America, and English Language Learners (ELL). Selected applicants for this Northeastern University scholarship will receive a 25% tuition discount throughout their graduate programs. In addition, they should be studying one of the eligible programs in the following departments, such as College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Khoury College of Computer Sciences, School of Law, among others.

4. Graduate School Fellowships

Northeastern University’s Graduate School offers fellowships to graduate students to maximize their potentials at various research centers, universities, and non-profit organizations. One of NU’s fellowships is the Graduate Dissertation Completion Fellowship, where Ph.D. candidates are given a stipend that they can use for one semester. They will also have health insurance as an additional financial security opportunity. 5. Research and Teaching Assistantships

Northeastern University Graduate Assistantships, a popular form of Northeastern University scholarships for graduate students, include research and teaching assistantships that are offered to Master’s and Ph.D. students. These assistantships give them opportunities to work in research and teaching jobs alongside other graduate students. RAs and TAs will have partial or complete tuition remission, a living stipend, and a financial aid package. This financial support package is only awarded for one semester. Another student employment opportunity that Northeastern University offers to its graduate students is co-op programs which give them full-time work experiences through practical training. Like the assistantships, students work with other graduate students and mentors. All upper-level students are required to go on these programs each year. For example, the Graduate School of Law has a Cooperative Legal Education Program that offers three full-time legal work experiences worldwide. During that period, students are required to work for a minimum of 35 hours/week while earning approximately $3,100 per week from their employer and other organizations.
