In honor of Mr. Stanley Marshall’s contributions to the gas and energy powerhouse company of the North Americas, the Fortis Inc., the H. Stanley Marshall Scholarship is an endowed scholarship at the Memorial University of Newfoundland given by the company to support international students from the Caribbeans in pursuing their chosen fields of study and empowering their communities through education.

The scholarship funding came from the endowment given by Fortis Inc. to the Memorial University of Newfoundland, commemorating the retirement of Mr. Stanley Marshal after 35 years of service in the company. This scholarship is given to all Caribbean countries but is highly preferred to students from Belize, Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands.

Applicants wanting to apply for the scholarship should be an offer holder for an undergraduate degree – either professional or a faculty-based degree in the Memorial University of Newfoundland. 1. Janet Murphy Goodridge Legacy Award

In honor of the Newfoundland and Labrador’s Baby-Friendly Council for two decades, the Janet Murphy Goodridge Legacy Award is given to one graduate student dedicated to continuing Ms. Murphy-Goodridge’s legacy in the field of maternal and infant health. This scholarship is open to all Memorial University of Newfoundland Graduate School students in all areas of study.

While chairing the Baby-Friendly Council of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Janet Murphy Goodridge authored numerous studies dedicated to implementing the World Health Organization’s Baby-Friendly Initiative to provide women with child support for infant feeding decisions. And in her honor, the provincial Baby-Friendly Council endowed a scholarship grant to the Memorial University of Newfoundland Graduate School for students wanting to continue the vision of the late Murphy-Goodridge for breastfeeding safe spaces.

This scholarship at the Memorial University of Newfoundland is annually awarded to one graduate student upon completion of research for maternal or infant health. Preference towards research studies for breastfeeding is noted for relevance. Interested students must submit a cover letter, a one-page statement regarding their research, curriculum vitae, correspondence letters from two university professors, and a current copy of their transcripts through email.

The sole grantee of each academic year undergoes a selection process spearheaded by the Awards and Medals Committee and shall be endorsed to the Associate Vice-President (Academic) and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies for the awarding of the scholarship grant.

2. The Peter Mackey Memorial Graduate Scholarship

To assist graduate students with disabilities, the Memorial University of Newfoundland awards The Peter Mackey Memorial Graduate Scholarship that provides financial support through a tuition fee waiver amounting to $1,083.

This merit scholarship will be awarded to students with demonstrated academic excellence despite their disabilities. One grantee will only be selected per academic year, who shall receive a tuition waiver and be given a choice to take a reduced academic load for their convenience.
