Undergraduate Scholarships at McMaster University

1. Provost Entrance Scholarship for International Students

  • Scholarship Amount: $7,500 per year
  • Eligibility Criteria: This scholarship is awarded annually to 10 students who are finishing their final year of high school and owns a student visa.

This Entrance Award is founded in 2018 to acknowledge the academic excellence of international students enrolling at McMaster University. To apply for this scholarship at McMaster University, students must have access to AwardSpring where they will submit their application.

After they have received an acknowledgement letter from McMaster University, they must activate their MacID (a unique ID for students and employees of the university) using the student ID number and barcode found in the letter. Their MacID credentials will be used to log in to AwardSpring.

Applicants must submit a reference letter from a high school official who can attest to their character, academic competence, and leadership skills. The letter must be saved as a PDF file before being submitted to AwardSpring.

2. The Woo Family International Entrance Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: $3,000 per year
  • Eligibility Criteria: Students must be in their final year of high school and entering their 1st term of college after graduation. A student visa is also required for this scholarship.

Founded in 1999 by Mr. Chung How Woo, this McMaster University scholarship does not require an application. Once they are enrolled at McMaster University, international students will be automatically chosen based on their final admission average, which must be at least 80% to be considered for this Entrance Award.

3. The McMaster Chinese Alumni – Peter George International Entrance Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: $3,000 per year
  • Eligibility Criteria: Students who are graduating from high school and entering college at McMaster University are eligible for this scholarship. They must also be student visa holders.

Founded by the Chinese Alumni (Toronto Chapter) of McMaster University in 1999, this scholarship does not require an application. A minimum average of 80% is required for this Entrance Award, and international students must be officially enrolled at McMaster University to be considered by the selection committee.

Postgraduate Scholarships at McMaster University

1. The Graduate Students Association Bursary

  • Scholarship Amount: Undisclosed
  • Eligibility Criteria: A graduate student of any of the following disciplines: Science, Health Sciences, Engineering, Humanities, or Social Sciences. A student finishing a PhD in Business is also eligible.

This McMaster scholarship is awarded annually by the School of Graduate Studies to a graduate student recommended by the Graduate Students Association. Applications are open from August to January, and applicants must fill out an application form in AwardSpring where their financial needs will be assessed.

2. The Cecil and Yvette Yip Graduate Bursaries

  • Scholarship Amount: Undisclosed
  • Eligibility Criteria: Graduate students from the Faculty of Science or Faculty of Engineering who have successfully integrated biology and engineering into their research.

This bursary is given by the School of Graduate Studies to deserving students who are in need of financial support. An application form containing information about their monetary needs must be submitted to AwardSpring.

3. The Myra Baillie Academic Grant

  • Scholarship Amount: $1,000
  • Eligibility Criteria: A graduate student from any program with an A average. A female student is also preferred.

This academic grant is founded in 2005 and awarded to a graduate student who demonstrates financial need.
