Undergraduate Scholarships at Loughborough University

1. International Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: 25% tuition waiver on the first year
  • Eligibility Criteria: International undergraduate students; Self-financed; High academic achievement.

This Loughborough University scholarship is a merit-based program awarded to self-financed international undergraduate students with exceptional academic performance and potential. Students are automatically considered for the program upon their application to the university. No additional requirements are needed; however, it is important to note that the majority of Loughborough University courses require an A-Levels score of at least AAA or equivalent.

Accepted students will be informed by the University’s Admissions Office, and will be awarded a 25% tuition waiver for their first year of study.

2. Hardship Fund

  • Scholarship Amount: Varies
  • Eligibility Criteria: Students experiencing unforeseen financial challenges

The Hardship Fund is a one-time subsidy for students who are experiencing unforeseen financial challenges. Applications will be awarded on a case-to-case basis. The standard payout is computed as the difference between the students’ available funds and expenses, capped at 2,500 GBP. Note that because fund provisions are limited, beneficiaries of this program are limited.

3. Music and Arts Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: 200 GBP and free tuition for one year.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Exceptionally talented students in the arts.

To encourage well-rounded students in the university, Loughborough sponsors nine Music and Arts Scholarships among exceptionally talented students in the arts. These Loughborough University scholarships are offered in instrumental and vocal music, creative writing or spoken word, performing arts, and multimedia arts. Interested students may apply at the start of the year, and stand to receive a cash prize of 200 GBP and free tuition or mentoring for one year. Moreover, the university provides these students with opportunities to perform and organize events to showcase their art.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Loughborough University

1. Alumni Bursary

  • Scholarship Amount: 10% off tuition fees.
  • Eligibility Criteria: International alumni of the university; Applying as self-financed, full-time postgraduate students.

To incentivize Loughborough undergraduate alumni to continue further studies, the university offers a 10% discount off postgraduate tuition fees. All international students with an undergraduate degree from Loughborough University and are applying as self-financed, full-time postgraduate students are eligible. No applications are needed to apply.

2. Chevening Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition waiver for one year of study
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students (excluding the USA and the EU) with ambition and leadership potential in their respective fields; Upper second-class 2:1 honors degree or equivalent; At least two years of cumulative work experience; Applied to the university before the scholarship application.

The Chevening Scholarships is a UK-sponsored scholarship program managed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other external partners. To date, over 44,000 Chevening alumni have benefited from the program’s comprehensive sponsorship of one year of Master’s study, including round trip airfare to and from the UK, travel allowances, and a monthly stipend for living expenses. Loughborough University offers this scholarship, along with a number of UK universities as well.

International students (excluding the USA and the EU) with ambition and leadership potential in their respective fields are eligible to apply. They must also possess an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree or equivalent to show academic excellence, at least two years of cumulative work experience, and have applied to the university before the scholarship application.

The application process takes up to eight months in total. Eligible students must submit their applications to the Chevening website to be assessed by the reading committee. Those shortlisted will be asked for two reference letters and academic transcripts and given an interview appointment with the committee. Another round of deliberations will be done after the interviews to produce the final list of accepted students.

3. Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition waiver for one year of study, plus free round trip airfare, monthly living allowance, and a thesis and/or study travel grant, where applicable.
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students from eligible countries; Upper second class (2:1) honors or equivalent; Exhibiting financial need

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships at Loughbourough University is another scholarship sponsored by the UK Foreign Commonwealth Office catered to high-potential talent in eligible Commonwealth countries enrolling in a Master’s course in the UK. The organization aims to provide these talents with a world-class education for the development of their home countries. Students from eligible countries with upper second class (2:1) honors or equivalent exhibiting financial need are welcome to apply.

Applications along with the necessary forms are submitted through the online application system. These include proof of citizenship, academic transcripts, and two reference letters. Students must also create a Personal Statement detailing their motivations for the scholarship, a Statement of Relevance detailing their work experience and its impact on the Master’s degree of choice, and a Development Impact statement stating the impact of the scholarship on the scholar’s country of origin, and how they plan to implement these changes after graduation. These must be backed by referrals who can vouch for the scholar’s ability to achieve these goals, as well as a nomination from Loughborough University.

Candidates will be assessed based on their potential, the quality and feasibility of the plan, and its impact on society. Once accepted, scholars will be granted a full tuition waiver for one year of study, with free round trip airfare, monthly living allowance, and a thesis and/or study travel grant, where applicable.
