The Russian Government Scholarship, often referred to as State Scholarship, is a highly-regarded public scholarship grant offered by the Government of the Russian Federation to students with pronounced academic excellence in their fields of expertise, eligible for a postgraduate degree in any of Russian-sponsored universities. With the Lomonosov Moscow State University being one of Russia’s sponsored universities, international students with a degree offered in any postgraduate program offered in the university are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Similar to the Russian Government Scholarship, the State Academic Scholarships are state-funded financial assistance programs to students of Russian Universities. This scholarship, however, is automatically awarded to ongoing students on postgraduate degrees with good academic standing, meaning that the amount of tuition fee waiver is based on the student’s grade point average in the current semester.

Students with at least a grade mark of “B” will receive a tuition fee waiver of 34 USD for the current semester. Students with both “A” and “B” grade marks on any credit units for their current semester will be granted a 40 USD tuition fee waiver. Lastly, exemplary students with consistent “A” grade marks on all credit units for the current semester will be awarded a 43 USD tuition fee waiver.

Interested applicants would not need a separate application to avail of this scholarship available at Lomonosov Moscow State University, thus students with good academic standing will automatically receive the stipend from the government of the Russian Federation.

3. State Social Stipend

This scholarship increase program is also open to both local and international students of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, currently granted a State Academic Scholarship by the Federal Government of Russia. Since eligibility for the scholarship requires an existing State Academic Scholarship grant, the students applying for this scholarship increase should have a consistent “A”, “A” and “B”, or consistent “B” grade marks on the semester they are applying.

As a financial aid scholarship program, the applicants must prove the financial need to continue their postgraduate coursework in the university through several documents issued by concerned agencies for scholarship evaluation. Applications are then screened based on the assessed financial need, and at most 10% of applications will be granted a 20% increase to their current State Academic Scholarship grants in the form of tuition fee waivers. Students with existing student loans and debts are given priority for this scholarship increase program.

5. Increased State Academic Scholarships for Students with Achievements in Educational, Research, Public, Cultural, Creative and Sports Activities

  • Scholarship Amount: Scholarship increase of up to 20% in the current State Academic Scholarship Grant
  • Eligibility Criteria: State Academic Scholars with Distinction in the fields of Education, Research, Public Policy, Culture, Creatives, and Sports.

Complementary to the increased scholarships for needy students, the Lomonosov Moscow State University also offered a scholarship increase program to State Academic Scholars with distinction in Education, Research, Public Policy, Culture, Creatives, and Sports. This scholarship increase incentivizes local and international students to diffuse the Lomonosov excellence outside the university’s premises.

This scholarship is solely based on the distinction merits of the current State Academic Scholarship grantees of the Federal Government of Russia. The regulation states that the scholarship increase is awarded to 10% of the current faculty-student population at most. With this regulatory clause, the scholarship increase becomes competitive, and applications are to be evaluated based on the impact of their merits on the communities at large.

Being a State Academic Scholar is a requisite to avail this scholarship increase. Therefore, applicants must have consistent “A”, “A” and “B”, or consistent “B” grade marks on the semester they are applying. Aside from the grade requirement, applicants also need to provide documentation of their distinctions in the form of signed certificates and other relevant documents proving their merit.

The Academic Council of Moscow State University will deliberate submitted applications, as nominated by the faculties of the university, and will be shortlisted to at most 10% of the total student population of their faculties, to receive a 20% increase to their current State Academic Scholarship grant.
