Korea University Scholarships for International Students

Korea University in Seoul, South Korea was established in 1905 and is one of the most reputable universities in Korea. It offers programs in arts and science, as well as law, medicine, and business administration. There are also many scholarships at Korea University for international students; in recent years, the school has increased its enrollment for international students, and the school’s vision is to produce graduates who will excel in leadership and global citizenship.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Korea University

1. Academic Excellence Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 100% of tuition fee
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students who have achieved an outstanding GPA and are already attending KU.

Eligibility is for international students with an outstanding GPA above 2.0 in the previous semester who are enrolled at Korea University for at least one semester, and have achieved at least 12 credits. Students must also be in good standing with no academic infractions. Applications can be made by logging into the school portal. No application is needed for this Korea University scholarship; students with a GPA higher than 2.0 will be automatically considered.

2. Academic Improvement Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 50% of tuition fee
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students have significantly improved their GPA compared to the previous two semesters.

Eligibility is for international students who improved their GPA at Korea University in the spring semester over the fall semester. Students must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 AND have achieved at least 12 credits in both semesters. Students must also be in good standing with no academic infractions. Applications can be made by logging into the school portal.

3. Need-Based Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 50% of tuition fee
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students who are financially disadvantaged

Applicants to this scholarship must submit:

  • An ‘Explanatory Statement’ and ‘Personal Financial Statement’ with their application.
  • A passage about your current financial standing, and your plans for the the coming Fall. 150 words in English or 120 words in Korean.
  • A recommendation letter from a full-time professor at Korea University uploaded with your application. This should include their name, department, signature and the date on which the letter was signed. The letter should detail the financial hardships you have experienced. Postgraduate Scholarships at Korea University

1. Global Leader Scholarship (type A)

  • Scholarship Amount: 100% of entrance, tuition, and dormitory fees
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • GPA of 4.0/4.5, 3.83/4.3, 3.57/4 or 90/100 or higher from your latest school.
    • TOEFL (PBT) 577, TOEFL (iBT) 90 (My Best Score accepted) or higher,
    • TEPS 700 (new TEPS 386) or higher, IELTS 7.0 or higher, or TOPIK level 6 or above
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and Doctorate
  • Korea University Postgraduate Scholarship link

Approximately 80% of international students will receive this postgraduate Korea University scholarships. Native English speakers who wish to apply must provide a TOEFL, IELTS, TEPS or TOPIK test score. Scholarship evaluation will be conducted automatically, no further contact with your department is necessary. *The College of Medicine only grants 65% scholarships to international students.

2. Humanities and Social Sciences Scholarship (type B)

  • Scholarship Amount: 60% of tuition fee
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • GPA of 3.5/4.5, 3.36/4.3, 3.14/4 or 85/100 or higher from your latest school.
    • TOEFL (PBT) 553, TOEFL (iBT) 82 (My Best Score accepted) or higher,
    • TEPS 620 (new TEPS 337) or higher, IELTS 6.0 or higher, or TOPIK level 4 or above
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and Doctorate
