To support students, especially those who came to Keio University through self-funding or private funding, the university offers an undergraduate scholarship to currently enrolled second-year students and above. This scholarship served as the primary scholarship program sponsored by the university for all students in general.

The scholarship grant searches for beneficiaries possessing three qualities to be eligible for the assistance – students with excellent character, outstanding academic performance, and strong motivation to study, alongside demonstrated financial need to receive assistance or aid. This competitive scholarship offers approximately 310 slots for one semester, open to international students and local Japanese students.

Interested students may apply for this Keio University scholarship by duly completing the scholarship registration form and the international student scholarship evaluation form, which applicants may view on their Keio University student portal. Once accomplished, these forms shall be evaluated by one faculty staff before submission to the designated Google Forms link indicated in the forms.

The applications shall be evaluated based on academic merit and financial need. Students qualified to receive the scholarship shall be notified via writing and shall receive a scholarship grant of 250,000 to 500,000 Yen for one semester. 2. Yamaoka Kenichi Memorial Scholarship for New Undergraduate Students

To support privately funded incoming students from the Asian continent with demonstrated excellent academic performance, good character, and financial needs, Keio University offers this scholarship grant.

The Yamaoka Kenichi Memorial Scholarship assists students from countries within the Asian continent, especially those coming from low-income countries. As a competitive scholarship, only ten students will be selected based on the assessment of an independent scholarship selection committee.

Applicants will be assessed based on their academic performance in their previous years of study. The applicant’s character is also assessed, and applicants with engagements in various volunteering activities will be given merit. Lastly, the financial capacity of each applicant is assessed to determine their need for external financial assistance.

Similar to other internal scholarship programs offered by Keio University, applicants will submit their duly filled scholarship registration form and international student scholarship evaluation form, assessed by a faculty staff member. These forms will be submitted online and shall be screened according to the criteria mentioned.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship grant respective to their degree program. Grantees enrolled in the Faculties of Letters, Economics, Law, and Business and Commerce will receive 700,000 yen for one year. Enrollees of other faculties meanwhile will receive a scholarship grant amounting to 900,000 yen.

3. Goldman Sachs Scholars Fund

The Goldman Sachs Scholars Fund is one of the donor-funded scholarships of Keio University, assisting financially disadvantaged international students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree, demonstrating notable academic performance.

This scholarship program assists ten applicants with a strong sense of motivation to finish their studies at Keio University that has evident financial vulnerabilities to continue funding themselves.

To qualify for the scholarship program, applicants must have an excellent academic record during their studies in Keio University, must have no record of any misdemeanor, and have an established financial need, to be backed up by their expected household income and other documents as the university may deem necessary.

Qualified applicants will receive a scholarship grant of 500,000 yen yearly, and shall be subject to renewal based on the grantee’s academic performance.

The Keio University’s “Design the Future” Award is an initiative to invest in the capacity of future leaders all around the world through funding their postgraduate studies and taking part in designing the future of their respective countries. The scholarship award provides selected international students with financial and professional support to leverage their postgraduate studies and achieve their fullest potential through education and research.

With the “Design the Future” Award being the most prestigious scholarship program of Keio University, applicants will go through a meticulous process of selection to come up with a handful of grantees to enjoy generous scholarship privileges such as full tuition fee scholarship for two to three years, a monthly living allowance of 200,000 yen, and a preparatory allowance of 150,000 including airfare and other expenses grantees might need to start schooling in Japan.

Each graduate faculty has specific application procedures depending on the minimum requirements they have for their degrees. However, as a rule of thumb, the application process starts with duly filling up the application forms, with details regarding previous academic performance, extracurricular and volunteering engagements, work experiences, and other information necessary for the identification of applicants. Supporting documents such as transcripts of records and certificates may be requested by the faculties.

Similar to its undergraduate counterpart, Keio University’s Yamaoka Kenichi Memorial Scholarship for Current Graduate Students aims to fund excellent graduate students from countries within Asia who demonstrate financial need to continue their studies overseas. This scholarship grant is offered for international students from master’s and doctoral degree programs of all graduate faculties in Keio University.

This Keio University scholarship is competitive and given to only 40 grantees satisfying the criteria set by the selection committee.
