The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Surakarta (ISI Surakarta) is a public art university that was established to promote the development of traditional arts. It was founded by a group of young artists at the Indonesian Karawitan Art Academy, the predecessor of ISI Surakarta, in 1964. Following several developments and improvements, ISI Surakarta officially got approval from the Minister of National Education in 2007 and currently has two campuses.
