The Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) is a public university in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Its origins can be traced back to the formation of the Federation of Isolated Schools of the State of Guanabara (FEFIEG). The University of Rio de Janeiro was founded in 1979 by the merger of FEFIEG and other Rio de Janeiro schools. In terms of rankings, the university was ranked 23rd in the ENADE classification by the government in 2006.
