The College of Wooster was initially founded as a university by Presbyterians, starting with a student body of only 34 students. By 1915, the university had grown to offer a number of graduate programs, including a medical school, but later was shut down to focus on undergraduate education. The college gained its independent and private status in 1969 when the Presbyterian Synod of Ohio let go of its ownership. Today, the college continues to strive for academic excellence, with students from all over the world coming in to enroll.
