It was established in 1983 after the Technical Education Center of Bahia and the Faculty of Agronomy of the Middle San Francisco were combined with other Bahian institutions. In addition to offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs, UNEB—one of the top research universities in the nation—also has 200 research groups.
