Indiana University Bloomington Scholarships
Indiana University offers a variety of scholarships and financial aid to all incoming students. It is one of the few universities in the United States that give merit-based awards to incoming international students.
The Bloomington Campus has academic scholarships given to students who demonstrate excellent academic performance. They also offer Selective Scholarships exclusive to invited applicants who show exceptional academic performance, character, and potential.
Incoming students are considered automatically for the two types of scholarships at IU Bloomington upon applying for admissions.
IU Bloomington also offers several types of scholarships for nontraditional students that are open to international students.
1. Fellowships and Awards

- Scholarship Amount: $25,000
IU Bloomington offers a variety of fellowships, grants, and awards to students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in the university. These scholarships for graduate students fall into seven distinct categories.
Some of which include Leadership and Service, Merit and Achievement, Discipline-specific Scholarships, and Diversity. The categories of fellowships and awards have different eligibility requirements. The amount awarded to selected students varies and can range from $5,000 to $25,000.
2. IU Global Engagement Scholarship

- Scholarship Amount: $11,000 per year
The IU Global Engagement Scholarship is a competitive merit-based scholarship exclusive to international students with excellent academic standing.
All incoming international freshmen are considered for the scholarship upon admission. SAT or ACT scores and high school transcripts are the basis of acceptance.
This Indiana University scholarship award is renewable for each academic year. Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be enrolled full-time under any undergraduate degree program (12 or more credit hours) while under the scholarship.
3. IU Jewish Studies Scholarship

- Scholarship Amount: $60,000
Excellent students entering the university under Jewish Studies programs may apply for the IU Jewish Studies Scholarship. Students who demonstrate promise and a good track record with their character and extracurricular activities are prioritized.

4. College of Arts and Sciences Scholarships

- Scholarship Amount: Varies
The College of Arts and Sciences scholarships are Selective Scholarships reserved for exceptional incoming undergraduate students majoring in degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences.
All incoming international freshmen enrolled in the College of Arts are automatically considered for the Selective Scholarship.
This Indiana University scholarship amount may vary based on academic merit, financial need, and donor intent. Students who have received a scholarship from the College of Arts and Science can be offered additional awards by their department.
International students enrolled in any College of Arts and Sciences program may be invited to apply for the Freshmen Scholarships, Integrated Freshmen Learning Experience, and the Science, Technology, and Research Scholars.
5. Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship

- Scholarship Amount: $25,000
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship is for doctoral students with dissertations on ethics or religious studies. Doctoral students enrolled in Humanities or Social Sciences and who have maintained a GPA of 3.30 are eligible to apply.
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship was created to encourage original studies on the implications of foreign policy, factors of political decisions, the moral codes of different cultures, and other topics on philosophy, ethics, and religious studies.
6. Wells Scholars Program

- Scholarship Amount: full tuition, living stipend, academic fees, overseas studies
The Wells Scholars Program guarantees the complete cost of attendance for exceptional undergraduate students in IU. The scholarship also provides a living stipend, coverage for overseas studies, and a grant for a summer experience. The living stipend will be given to scholars even if the recipient chooses to live off-campus.
Recipients of this Indiana University scholarship award must be in excellent academic standing, have outstanding character, and demonstrate strong leadership potential. Applicants who have significant involvement in their community and interest in international engagement are given priority.
The scholarship is awarded annually to 18 to 22 incoming first-year students. Applications for the scholarship are usually through nomination by high schools around the world.
Incoming students who were not nominated by their high school and wish to participate in the selection process will be considered by the Office of Admissions or the Office of International Services.
