Undergraduate Scholarships at Hong Kong Polytechnic University

1. Entry Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: up to 25,000 USD per year (fully funded scholarship)

Entry Scholarship is offered to students who had an outstanding performance at their high school before applying to PolyU. To apply for this Hong Kong Polytechnic University scholarship, the students have to fill out an online application form and undergo an interview at the University. They can apply for a full scholarship (25,000 USD per year), full tuition waiver (18,600 USD per year), or half tuition waiver (9,300 USD per year). If the application is successful, the students are notified when they are accepted into the applied program. Both international and domestic students with good high school merit are eligible to apply for the Entry Scholarship.

2. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: up to 14,000 USD per degree (4- or 5-year program) + living allowance for students from China
  • Eligibility Criteria: academic merit – GPA of at least 3.5 (3.0 for students with special educational needs) or being within 10 % of the class, enrolled in 4- or 5-year program funded by the government, resident of Hong Kong, or a citizen of China

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Scholarship is offered to students who have established their residence in Hong Kong and to students from China. If selected for the scholarship, Chinese students are also awarded roughly 9,000 USD per first and second year of study for living expenses. Students have to apply for the scholarship via PolyU’s online application system. Firstly, they also have to attend an in-person interview at the university and, if invited, another interview with the Donor. Each year, the interviews have pre-set dates and alternatives cannot be accommodated to student’s schedules.

3. HKSAR Government Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 20,000 – 30,000 USD
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrollment in Higher Diploma programs funded by the Government, academic merit – GPA of at least 3.5 and a minimum of 24 credits in the current year of study, involvement in activities outside the study, leadership skills

Every year, the Government awards around 350,000 USD in scholarships. Both domestic and international students are welcome to apply via University’s official online Scholarship Application System. If awarded for this scholarship available at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the students receive 20,000 – 30,000 USD for the year of their study and can apply for the renewal of the scholarship the following year. Students also have to maintain a good academic performance. If not, PolyU can withdraw the scholarship. Awarded students are selected by a committee of PolyU’s academic staff and notified by mid-December each year.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Hong Kong Polytechnic University

1. RGC Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

  • Scholarship Amount: tuition fee for entire study programs duration + 27,600 HKD monthly stipend + cash award per year + conference grant of 13,800 HKD
  • Eligibility Criteria: academic merit, involvement in activities outside the study, leadership skills, devotion to social responsibility

RGC Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme is offered to students with outstanding academic merit, who also show great leadership skills and are overall proactive in their field of study as well as in their community. This Hong Kong Polytechnic University scholarship covers tuition costs for the entire period of the study. It also guarantees accommodation for at least 2 years and gives out a monthly stipend amounting to 27,600 HKD per first three years and a yearly allowance of roughly 13,800 HKD for conferences and travel expenses. All admitted full-time PhD and MPhil students are automatically considered for the Fellowship Scheme.

2. PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme (PPPFS)

  • Scholarship Amount: tuition fee for entire study programs duration + 3,400 USD monthly stipend + cash award per year + conference grant of 3,000 USD

PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme is offered to doctoral students with outstanding academic merit. Similar to RGC Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, students also have to show great interest their own into research as well as their community. It covers tuition fees and also awards a monthly stipend of 3,400 USD for the duration of the normal study period. It also covers a conference grant of 3,000 USD and a yearly cash award of 5,000 USD in the first year and 2,500 USD in upcoming normal study period years. All admitted full-time PhD and MPhil students are automatically considered for the Fellowship Scheme.

3. PolyU Research Postgraduate Scholarship (PRPgS)

  • Scholarship Amount: a monthly stipend of 2,800 USD + conference grant of 3,000 USD

PolyU Research Postgraduate Scholarship (PRPgS) is awarded to students who show great prominence in research in their field of study. The scholarship does not cover the tuition waiver, but it gives out a monthly stipend of roughly 2,800 USD for the entire period of normal study. It also covers a one-time payment of 3,000 USD for travel and conference-related expenses. All admitted full-time PhD and MPhil students are automatically considered for scholarships.
