This includes countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, and many others.

There are three sub-types of Belt and Road Scholarships: a.) for undergraduate students from Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Thailand; b.) for undergraduate students from Belt and Road countries besides Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Thailand, and c.) for postgraduate students from Belt and Road countries. The scholarship covers the full tuition fee and is subject to renewal for the entire study period if the recipient performs admirably.

To apply for the scholarship, you must simply fit all of the criteria and apply for admission to Hong Kong Baptist University. All courses are eligible under this scholarship, so you are not limited to the courses you can apply for. Take note, however, that dual or joint degree programs are not covered by this scholarship.

While applying, make sure to contact the university for information on the Belt and Road Scholarship. There usually isn’t a separate application for the scholarship needed, but the university may require some additional documents from you like a letter of motivation. This also lets the university know that you’re interested in the Belt and Road Scholarship in particular.

According to Hong Kong’s Education Bureau, the candidate will be evaluated on four major points. They must perform admirably in their academic studies, contribute to their university and community, possess leadership and communication skills, and have an interest in the community of Hong Kong.

Because this is an external scholarship, you will be competing with students even outside Hong Kong Baptist University. Thus, you must include all relevant information you can at admission. This will increase your chances of getting nominated by the university and selected for the scholarship.

The offer for the Belt and Road Scholarship will be included in your letter of admission. You will be receiving a fully-waived tuition fee, and you will not be allowed to receive any other scholarship awarded by the Hong Kong government.

It is fully funded by the government and is awarded to students who are currently enrolled in their first year of any eligible English program. In Hong Kong Baptist University’s case, both undergraduate and postgraduate programs are coverable by the scholarship.

There are two kinds of this Hong Kong Baptist University scholarship: five-year and one-year. The five-year scholarship is for secondary school graduates while the one-year is for college graduates seeking a postgraduate diploma. Both scholarships require proof of your English language proficiency—the minimum score is a Band 7 in IELTS or equivalent. If applying as a postgraduate, you would also need to hold a first degree in English or relevant subjects with grades not lower than 2:1 or equivalent.

A PDF version of the application form can be found here. The PDF includes the application form itself, a handy checklist, a section for your essay, and a recommendation letter you must submit to a teacher or adviser for them to fill out. You will also need copies of your English language examination scores, your admission letter from Hong Kong Baptist University, and a transcript of records from your past university (if postgraduate).

You should submit your application and supporting documents following the instructions on the PDF. The application deadline, the address of the Education Bureau, and the title marked on the envelope are indicated on the scholarship link. Please follow these instructions carefully as your application may be rejected otherwise.

You can submit your application either by post or in person, though they highly recommend you do it in person. This is just to ensure that the Education Bureau receives your application on time, as late applications will not be accepted.

They will be evaluating you based on all aspects of your application, though priority will be given to those who wish to teach in primary schools. If you are shortlisted, you will be asked for a mandatory in-person interview. You will have to pay for your transportation.

This scholarship is applicable for one year and is renewable for those under the five-year if they maintain good grades. All recipients of this scholarship are also obliged to teach English in Hong Kong for one year (postgraduate) or three years (undergraduate) immediately after graduation.
