Undergraduate Scholarships at Heriot-Watt University

1. Undergraduate Merit Award

Every year, multiple undergraduate, international students of the Heriot-Watt United Kingdom campus become recipients of the Undergraduate Merit Award, one of the best Heriot-Watt University scholarships for international students. International students who are self-funding overseas fees are qualified for the tuition fee discount that serves as the offer’s benefit. Recipients of other scholarships are no longer eligible for this offer.

There is no separate application as students will be automatically evaluated. Those meeting the academic criteria, which varies per student, will be awarded the offer on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Heriot-Watt Dubai Bicentennial Award

The Heriot-Watt Dubai Bicentennial Award is for foundation, undergraduate, or postgraduate students of the Heriot-Watt Dubai campus who are able to pay in advance 10% of their tuition fee. The discount will be distributed equally across an installment plan during their first year of study.

Students with conditional offers from the university must submit documents needed to receive an unconditional offer. However, should their application be rejected despite the submission of such requirements, their fees paid will be refunded, and the discount voided.

3. Early Application Discount

All students who paid their fees on time at the Heriot-Watt Dubai campus will receive the early application discount worth AED 5,000. They only have to pay 10% of their fees in advance, and the scholarship amount will then be distributed equally as an installment plan.

Both conditional offer and unconditional offer students may be granted this Heriot-Watt University scholarship. However, those with conditional offers must settle their lacking documents to receive an unconditional offer. If such conditions are not met or submission is not made, the discount will be forfeited and the fees refunded.

3. Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 50% of fees, contingent upon interview
  • Eligibility Criteria: female Malaysian who has met the academic requirements

The WISE Scholarship, to empower women, helps them attain quality education in Heriot-Watt’s Malaysia campus. It aims to reduce the gender disparity prevalent in the field of STEM and make it possible for young girls to follow their passion in engineering or science.

The WISE Scholarship is open for both Foundation and Undergraduate students who intend to pursue approved programs. The academic requirements are different for the foundation and undergraduate levels. To apply, students may submit a video where they talk about their passion for STEM along with a written personal statement. Their application will be assessed based on academic merit, extra-curricular and leadership background, and dedication to STEM.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Heriot-Watt University

1. Postgraduate Merit Award

  • Scholarship Amount: up to £3,000 tuition fee discount

    • Full-time postgraduate taught degree qualifier

Self-funded postgraduate international students will be automatically assessed for the Postgraduate Merit Award. Since this Heriot-Watt University scholarship is limited, they will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis, similar to the Undergraduate Merit Award.

Up to £3,000 worth of awards may be granted, depending on the equivalent of the applicant’s bachelor’s degree. Recipients of other scholarship offers are no longer eligible for this award.

2. EPS Scholarships for PhD Research

  • Scholarship Amount: £15,000 per year

    • 1st class Mchem, Mphys, Msci, Meng or equivalent degree

Although the EPS Scholarships for PhD Research are often granted only to students from the United Kingdom or European Union, outstanding overseas students are welcome to apply. Multiple students are awarded every year, and this Heriot-Watt University scholarship is expected to cover fees for 3 to 3.5 years. The benefits are given as an annual stipend.

3. Commonwealth PhD Scholarships

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are intended for applicants from eligible Commonwealth countries who do not have the financial capacity to pursue their PhD in the United Kingdom without support or scholarship. Many benefits come with the offer, including warm clothing allowance (if applicable), travel grants for study-related travel within the country or abroad, airfare for overseas fieldwork, mid-term visit airfare for those who do not plan to claim family allowances. Those who come to the UK with their spouse may receive up to £244 per month, with additional funds for children. If the scholar has children but no spouse with them, they will be granted £485 for the first child and an additional amount for the other children.

Only nominations are accepted for the Commonwealth PhD scholarships, an excellent scholarship available at the Heriot-Watt University. Applicants must apply for a nomination from any national nominating agency or selected non-governmental organizations and charitable bodies. If the applicant is a staff member of a selected university, their university may also nominate them for the offer. In addition, they also have to apply through the CSC’s only applicant system.
