Postgraduate Scholarships at Hasselt University

1. VLIR-UOS ICP Scholarship – Master of Statistics and Data Science

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition waiver, plus 1,150 EUR per month, free health insurance, and travel costs
  • Eligibility Criteria: International Master’s enrollees residing in select countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America; Aged 35 or below

The Flemish Interuniversity Council sponsors the VLIR-UOS ICP Scholarship for Master of Statistics and Data Science for 10 deserving international students. International Master’s enrollees residing in select countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America aged 35 or below are eligible to apply.

Application to the scholarship program is made separately. However, students who intend to apply for the scholarship must inform Hasselt University. Accepted students will receive a full tuition waiver for the standard period of study of 24 months. Additional to this is a monthly allowance of 1,150 EUR per month, plus free health insurance and travel costs.

2. VLIR-UOS Scholarships for the ICP: Master of Transportation Sciences – Road Safety in Low & Middle-Income Countries

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition waiver, health insurance, accommodation, and travel costs for the standard period of study
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students of eligible developing countries; Aged 35 and below; No prior scholarship from the Belgian government; Bachelor’s degree in any related course; Academic distinction ranking or equivalent in a university with English as the medium of instruction; TOEFL score (paper-based) of 550 or equivalent

The VLIR-UOS Scholarships for the ICP: Master of Transportation Sciences is another scholarship program supported by the Flemish Interuniversity Council. This is another scholarship available at Hasselt University. This program is a two-year course featuring an interdisciplinary approach to transport planning in low-income societies, dealing with individual, environmental and societal contributions to improved road safety. This coveted Master’s program offers only 10 slots to deserving students, covering a full tuition waiver, health insurance, accommodation, and travel costs for the standard period of study.

International students of eligible developing countries with a bachelor’s degree in any related course are welcome to apply, in hopes that they may apply best practices in their respective countries of residence. They must have achieved an academic distinction ranking or equivalent in a university with English as the medium of instruction, and have a TOEFL score (paper-based) of 550 or equivalent. The scholarship is only valid for students aged 35 and below, with no prior scholarship from the Belgian government.

Applications are done online. Be sure to tick “yes” on the application for a VLIR-ICP scholarship part of the form to be considered. To complete the application, hard copies of required documents must be sent by post to the university. All documents must be original or certified true copies – photocopies will not be accepted. All applications will be forwarded to the board of admissions which will be force ranked, and the top 10 applicants will be accepted.

3. Master Mind Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: 8,000 EUR per year.
  • Eligibility Criteria: International students from Japan, Mexico, Palestine, and the USA; Minimum GPA of 3.5; Minimum TOEFL score of 94 or equivalent.
  • Degree Offered: Master’s.

The Master Mind Scholarship is a general Master’s scholarship at Hasselt University offered by the Flemish Ministry of Education across universities in the Flanders region. 13 scholarships are allocated for students across different regions – 3 slots each for Japan and Mexico, 2 for Palestine, and 5 for the USA. Students from these countries must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and a minimum TOEFL score of 94 or equivalent to qualify.

Applications for the course and the scholarship are done separately, students must submit their application for the scholarship through Hasselt University. Aside from the filled-out application form, students must submit 2 recommendation letters from their home university. The university will then screen the applications and forward a maximum of 20 candidates to the Flemish Government for their final selection of grantees.

Students stand to receive 8,000 EUR per year good for the standard degree of study. Note that this scholarship is only available to students not currently enrolled in any other higher institution in Flanders, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other scholarship.
