Fudan University Scholarships for International Students

Fudan University is one of the leading universities in China. It is ranked top 160 in Best Global University in 2020. It was founded in 1905 by Ma Xiangbo and has now produced excellent graduates for over a century. They have four campuses in Shanghai, the city of historic landmarks as well as of bright futures. Amenities include libraries, museums, gymnasia, and more, all for the betterment of student education and life.

They offer diverse types of programs, from arts to science to philosophy. They also have one undergraduate program, Clinical Medicine, that is taught in English. This university accepts students of different nationalities and also offers many Fudan University scholarships for international students. Despite these opportunities, it is extremely difficult to get in.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Fudan University

1. Fudan University CSC Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: free tuition fee, medical insurance, and accommodation, CNY 2500 monthly stipend
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment and conduct, senior high school diploma holder

The CSC Scholarship is open to international students, funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council. Applications are accepted usually every December to April annually. They offer a wide array of scholarship programs under 274 Chinese universities. For more comprehensive information regarding this Fudan University scholarship, check out this website. 2. Fudan University Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS)

  • Scholarship Amount: free tuition fee, medical insurance, and accommodation, CNY 2500 monthly stipend
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment and conduct, HSK and HSKK Certification

The Center for Language Education and Cooperation in China created the Confucius Institute Scholarship to encourage international students to study and teach the Chinese language and culture in their home countries. You may apply if you are 16-25 years old.

This scholarship at Fudan University for a Bachelor’s Degree is only for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Language. However, they have shorter programs such as one school year, one semester, and four weeks.

3. Fudan University Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)

  • Scholarship Amount: full scholarship (free tuition fee, medical insurance, living and accommodation expenses), partial scholarship (free tuition fee and medical insurance)
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment and conduct, senior high school diploma holder, HSK certification

Since Fudan University is located in Shanghai, it is one of the host universities for the SGS. The SGS was created so that exemplary students from across the world can have the wonderful opportunity of studying in Shanghai, which in turn enriches global affairs regarding technology. There are fewer host universities for this compared to the others because it is only limited to the city. If you already have a scholarship sponsored by the Chinese government, you may not be eligible to apply. More information regarding eligibility and instructions can be found here.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Fudan University

1. Fudan University Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS)

  • Scholarship Amount: free tuition fee, medical insurance, and accommodation, CNY 3000 or 3500 monthly stipend
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment, and conduct, committed to stimulating the international growth of Chinese culture, 16 – 45 years old (depending on the degree), HSK and HSKK certification
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD

This scholarship at Fudan University is the same as the one above in Undergraduate Scholarship #2. Both Master’s and Doctor’s Degree are only for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, but as mentioned before, shorter scholarships (information found here) offer other programs pertaining to Chinese culture. Applicants must be under the age of 35, however, there is an exception for currently employed Chinese language teachers. They must be under the age of 45. Master’s applicants will receive a CNY 3000 monthly stipend while Doctor’s applicants get CNY 3500.

2. Fudan University CSC Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: free tuition fee, medical insurance, and accommodation, CNY 3000 or 3500 monthly stipend
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment, and conduct, bachelor or higher diploma holder (for Master’s), or master or higher diploma holder (for Ph.D.)
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD

Similar to the CSC Scholarship for Undergraduates, this scholarship at Fudan University is open to international students. Unlike the Confucius Institute Scholarship, this scholarship is less specific in its target applicants and offers programs from Agriculture to Philosophy, giving the applicant freedom to choose. 3. Fudan University Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS)

  • Scholarship Amount: full scholarship (free tuition fee, medical insurance, living and accommodation expenses), partial scholarship (free tuition fee and medical insurance)
  • Eligibility Criteria: the non-Chinese citizen with no health issues, exemplary academic attainment, and conduct, bachelor or higher diploma holder (for Master’s), or master or higher diploma holder (for Doctor’s), HSK certification
  • Degree Offered: Master’s and PhD
  • Scholarship Link

Similar to the SGS above, this postgraduate scholarship is also limited to universities in Shanghai. You may apply here from February to April every year, although specific dates may change. Students may participate in activities that aim to explore the city and country, organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
