1. Richard and Melda Murray Jamaican Engineering Scholarship

Richard Murray, an alumnus of Dalhousie University, endows this scholarship fund with the help of his wife, Melda. They have lived a decade in Jamaica, with Richard contributing to the construction of bridges around the country. Two Jamaican students who intend to proceed to civil engineering are the target beneficiaries of this program. A scholarship worth around $22,000 is granted to them every year, but since it is renewable for four years, the maximum amount a scholar may get is $88,000.

2. Women in Technology Scholarship

1. A.S. Mowat Prize

2. Phi Kappa Pi Joe Ghiz Memorial Award

The Phi Kappa Pi Joe Ghiz Memorial Award was established in memory of Joe Ghiz, a Bachelor of Commerce and Law alumnus of Dalhousie. He served as a legislator of Prince Edward Island and Dean of Law at the university during his lifetime. He passed away last 1996.

This award worth $750 is granted to any Master’s or PhD student who had a GPA of 3.7/4.3 or higher during their two last years of study, which may be undergraduate or graduate-level studies. They must also be involved in the university and community. Applications and nominations for the prize will be course through the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

3. The Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone Memorial Bursary

Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone was a Jamaican alumnus of Dalhousie University and other higher education institutions. Part of his life was spent being a teacher in the university. Later on, he became part of the Nova Scotia Department of Education, where he contributed by developing ethnic and cultural services, multicultural education, and human rights education. He was passionate about social justice, fighting for multiculturalism, and human rights.

This Dalhousie University scholarship is intended for graduate students who have a passion and involvement in social justice and human rights.
