1. Alexandria University

We start our list of cheapest universities in Egypt with Alexandria University, a public educational institution based in the second-largest Egyptian city. It was established in 1938 primarily as a satellite campus of Fouad University. In 1942, it eventually became a full-fledged university.

Alexandria is considered one of the biggest universities in Egypt, after Cairo University and the American University in Cairo. It currently holds 24 faculties, including Law, Science, Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and Fine Arts to name a few.

It is considered one of the best universities in the country – and the best in the region of Alexandria. According to the World Rankings, it places 60th according to Impact rankings (partnership goals for 2020).

Although its main campus remains in Alexandria, the university also has satellite schools in Iraq, South Sudan, and Chad.

2. Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology

Established in 2010, the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology or E-JUST is one of the youngest educational institutions in the country. Located in New Borg El Arab, this research university is the result of the collaboration between the governments of Egypt and Japan.

E-JUST has 4 departments: the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of International Business & Humanities, the Institute for Basic and Applied Sciences, and the Center for Liberal Arts and Culture.

This cheap university in Egypt offers a variety of scholarships for foreigners, especially to international students coming from Africa.

3. Horus University – Egypt

Established in 2013, Horus University is a young institution based in New Damietta, Egypt. It is currently home to 6 faculties, namely Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Business Administration, and Engineering.

As with most Egyptian Universities, Horus aims to be known for “Excellence and leadership in education, and scientific research locally, regionally and internationally.”

Horus University has a massive 30-acre campus, where facilities such as the university library, medical center, hostels, and food courts can be found. It also has a dedicated International Students Office, as it has become a popular choice for foreigners in search of cheap yet quality education.

4. Heliopolis University

Heliopolis University was established in 2009 with the main aim of ‘sustainable development.’ The campus, which is home to about 1,700 students, is located in Salam City, Cairo.

This affordable university in Egypt has a total of 5 faculties. The Faculty of Engineering offers degrees in Water Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, and Green Architecture.

The Faculty of Business and Economics, on the other hand, has programs in Marketing, Accountancy, Economics, Management & Human Development, and Finance & Investment.

5. Cairo University

Cairo University is Egypt’s premier public university. It was founded in 1908 before it transferred to its current Giza campus in 1929. Formerly known as the Egyptian University and King Fuad I University, it is heralded as the second-oldest educational institution in the country (after Al Azhar University).

Cairo University has a total of 20 faculties. As of the latest count, about 230,000+ students are enrolled in these various departments.

Due to its age, Cairo University has seen the rise of many magnificent structural pieces. One standout is the Grand Celebration Hall, a domed-roof building that can house up to 4,000 people. It’s also known for its central library, which was established in 1931.

6. Nile University

Founded in 2006, Nile University is known to be the first non-profit research institution in Egypt. The campus, which is located in Juhayna Square, was established in coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

This cheap university in Egypt has 3 schools, namely the School of Information Technology & Computer Science, School of Business Administration, and School of Engineering.

It offers various master’s degrees through its School of Information Technology. Options include Software Engineering, Information Security, Informatics, Software Engineering.

Nile University also offers a Ph.D. in Computer Science.

7. Tanta University

Tanta University is located in the Al Gharbiyah governorate. It can trace its roots back to 1962 when it was established as Alexandria University’s faculty of medicine. It eventually became an independent university in 1972. Previously called the University of the Middle Delta, it was renamed to Tanta University a year later.

Tanta University has 12 faculties and 1 high institute. They are Medicine, Science, Education, Agriculture (Tanta and Kafr ash Shaykh), Engineering, Law, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Physical Education, Dentistry, Education, and the Arts.

As of the latest census, approximately 110,000+ students are currently enrolled in the above-mentioned departments.

According to the World Rankings, Tanta University shares the top 7 spots with Ain Shams, the American University in Cairo, and Benha. It’s also included in the 201-300 bracket for impact rankings (Peace, justice, and strong institutions 2020).

8. Mansoura University

Nestled in the middle of the Nile Delta is the famed Mansoura University. It was initially established in 1962 as a branch of the Cairo University Faculty of Medicine. It eventually became a full-fledged university – the East Delta University – in 1972. It was then renamed Mansoura a year after.

Mansoura University houses 17 faculties and 1 technical institute. Four of these – Arts, Special Education, Kindergartens, and Tourism & Hotels – are based outside the main campus.

As it was founded as a school of Medicine, its strong ties show through its 9 medical centers on the campus. In fact, its Urology and Nephrology Centre – which was established by Mohamed Ghoneim – is known as the largest in Africa.

Mansoura University is considered one of the best in the country. To wit, it is tied with Aswan University for the top spot. As per the World Rankings, it is also included in the 151-200 bracket for young universities and the 401-500 bracket for overall world rankings.

9. Misr International University

Misr International University, an affordable university in Egypt, is located in the Governorate of Qalyubiyya. This private educational institution was established in 1996 in Maadi before it transferred to its current campus in Cairo-Ismailia.

The university has 6 faculties: Mass Communications, Business Administration & International Trade, Computer & Information Science, Engineering & Architecture, Pharmacy, and Oral & Dental Medicine. The latter was the first private Dental College to be accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education.

10. German University in Cairo

We end our list of cheapest universities in Egypt with the German University in Cairo,  a private, non-profit educational institution based in New Cairo City. It was founded in 2002 through the support of the University of Stuttgart, the University of Elm, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, among many other German agencies. To date, it holds the record of being the first ‘German’ private university based abroad.

The university offers over 70 undergraduate and post-graduate programs. These are handled by the various faculties, including that Law & Legal Studies Management Technology, Information Engineering & Technology, Engineering & Material Sciences, Pharmacy & Biotechnology, Applied Sciences & Arts, and Media Engineering & Technology.

The curriculum, which is accredited by both German and Egyptian agencies, is all delivered in the English language.
