The Ivey Business School started as a part of Western University’s Faculty of the Arts. From awarding the HBA degree to six people in 1923, the school has grown into Canada’s top-rated business school – at least according to Bloomberg.

In 1948, it became a trailblazer in Canadian education when it offered the first MBA in the country. In 1950, it was finally made a separate department with Lloyd Sipherd as the first dean.

The school was named after Richard Ivey, who helped fund the construction of its own separate building, in 1957. Four years later, the business school broke another barrier by implementing Canada’s first Ph.D. program.
