State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UNISU) is the only state Islamic university in North Sumatra. To foster the transmission of Islamic education and bring about a simultaneous understanding of the language of Islam in North Sumatra, this university aims at being an interdisciplinary school that wants to expand ideas and simplify the means of merging different kinds of knowledge into one.

Established in 1965, the State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya is one of Indonesia’s oldest Islamic universities. It offers 60 undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs designed to address the socio-economic needs of the region while meeting international standards in education. It also takes pride in its spacious campus that houses its advanced infrastructure, facilities, and laboratories. 

Budi Luhur University (UBL) was established by the Budi Luhur Education Foundation and started as Budi Luhur Academy of Computer Science before undergoing several name changes and merging of faculties to become what is Budi Luhur University today. Established with the aim of training and producing skilled professionals in the field of computers, UBL continues working toward that same vision by prioritizing technology, science, entrepreneurship, and culture in the education it offers. The school has a high acceptance rate of about 80%.

Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ) is one of the Muhammadiyah colleges, established initially as the Teaching Education College. Following numerous developments in the organization of the school, UMJ took on full university status and now has ten faculties offering several study programs in different fields. The university is also research-focused, having several study and research centers dedicated to specific fields.

The Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo is a private institution established in 1982 to provide world-class education founded on Islamic principles and values. Founded in 1949, the National University, Indonesia is the second oldest private university in Indonesia. Having existed during the Dutch colonial period, the university served as a fortress to the youth of Jakarta. The university started as IKIP PGRI Madiun in 1976 but merged with two other universities in 2017 to achieve a higher standard of education and offer a broader array of programs.

PGRI University of Madiun, after its merger, now has four faculties and can offer courses in more than 26 programs, including postgraduate programs.

Established by the Widya Mandala Foundation in 1960, an organization responsible for catholic higher education in Indonesia, the Widya Mandala Catholic University of Surabaya is a private catholic university in Surabaya city. It is among the oldest universities in Surabaya and boasts four campus locations in the city. The university is also one of the most prestigious catholic universities in the nation and partners with numerous institutions in differing countries. Some of the university’s partners are in countries like Japan, the United States, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, and China.

Founded in 1964 as the Jakarta Institute of Teaching and Education but later renamed to State University of Jakarta (UNJ) in 1999 by the Indonesian government, UNJ is a public university with four campuses in Jakarta. The university derives its name from the Sanskrit word ‘Atma Jaya,’ meaning ‘superior soul.’ UAJY was originally a part of the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia in Jakarta but separated to become an autonomous institution in 1973.

Established in 2005 by the Kompas Gramedia Group, Multimedia Nusantara University (MNU) is a private university committed to ensuring quality technical training in new and emerging technological fields. MNU has one of the best ICT and entrepreneurship programs in Indonesia and envisions itself as a future international leader in information technology. Offering 83 study programs and 24 graduate programs, Ganesha University of Education, commonly referred to as Undiksha, has a long history, tracing its roots back as far as 1955, despite its official establishment being in 2006. With more than thirty-three thousand graduates, many of whom are teachers, Undiksha is considered the largest institution in Bali for the training of teachers. Alauddin Islamic State University has eight faculties. Five of the faculties focus on Islamic topics, while the other three deal with secular topics like science, business, and health.

Walisongo State Islamic University is a public university with a vision to become a leading Islamic research university by directing its focus on incorporating science and technology into its programs and developing cooperation with other institutions, both in education and industry, on a regional, national, and international level. The school’s campus is equipped with several facilities to facilitate the education of its students, with as many as seven laboratories.

Founded in 1990, Jenderal Achmad Yani University is a private university in the Cimahi and Bandung cities of Indonesia. Formed as a conglomeration of numerous schools, colleges, and technical institutions, the university has many campuses in various locations. However, the main campus is in Cimahi city, while the rest are in different locations in Bandung city.

Initially founded in 1959 as the Surabaya Branch of the Veterans Enterprise Administration Academy, the National Veteran Development University of East Java has grown substantially into a large institution with notable influence in East Java.
