Austria is one of the richest in technical studies among the German-speaking countries. It has some of the best engineering institutes in the world that produce numerous engineers yearly. These universities offer great research facilities and houses thousands of international students.

1. Vienna University of Technology

Founded in 1815 in central Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, also known as TU Wien (TUW) is the best engineering university in Austria. It holds about 28,150 students with 3,830 scientific staff within its 5 campuses.

There are 8 faculties here, and a total of 54 fields of study. Among these, 19 are bachelor’s, 33 master’s, and 3 doctorate programs. Among the 18 departments, 10 of them are dedicated to engineering. Electrical engineering, civil, and mechanical engineering are the best here. Besides studying, the campus libraries contain an astonishing 1.5 million books.

For research purposes, TUW focuses on 5 main research areas. As one of the biggest institutes for research, it currently has 31 patent issuances along with 121 patent applications, and a total of 4,654 scientific publications. 2. Graz University of Technology

Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) was established in 1811 in Graz, the second-largest city of Austria, and it’s one of the top engineering universities in Austria. At present, 13,566 students under 1,762 academic staff are enrolled here.

TU Graz is divided into 3 campuses in different locations. Students can choose between 7 technical faculties, 6 of which are pure engineering ones. Under these faculties, there are 96 total programs, among which 18 are bachelor’s and 33 master’s programs. 16 master’s programs are in English. It also offers 14 doctoral schools in English.

3. University of Vienna

The University of Vienna is the oldest in Austria. It was founded in 1365, and it’s also one of the largest on the list. Situated in Vienna, the university currently holds a total of 88,756 students and 6,880 academic staff.

The university has spread its campuses across Vienna in more than 70 locations. Students can choose from 4 centers of study and 15 faculties. As a top engineering school in Austria, there are a total of 178 degree programs including 3 diplomas and 13 doctoral programs. There are 55 undergraduate and 110 master’s programs. The university also holds one of the largest astronomical observatories in the country, the Vienna Observatory.

4. Johannes Kepler University Linz

The Johannes Kepler University Linz was founded in 1966 in Linz and is the first university in Austria to introduce bachelor’s and master’s degrees in medicine. Currently, it’s one of the leading institutes for business, science, and technology subjects including engineering.

The university contains approximately 23,000 students along with 130 professors. All undergraduate students here complete the first year together with shared courses, to choose among the subjects that best fits their choices and strengths. It is divided into 3 schools and 4 faculties, with a total of 127 institutes. The university offers an average of 1,026 courses in English every year.

The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (TNF) contains 58 institutes and 30 academic degree programs, including a doctorate in Engineering Sciences. In addition to these, the engineering faculty also has a supercomputer named “Mach” for a tremendous amount of storage and computational facilities.

Johannes Kepler University Linz excels at research works. It has 10 competence centers with 12 company holdings and 7 doppler laboratories. 5. University of Innsbruck

We end our list of best engineering schools in Austria with the University of Innsbruck, the 3rd largest university in Austria. Established in 1669 in Innsbruck, it is also one of the oldest in the country. Currently, 27,048 students have enrolled here along with 3489 academic faculties.

The university has no definite campus, rather its infrastructure is spread across the city of Innsbruck. It has 16 faculties and provides 4,077 degrees with 129 programs. The Faculty of Technical Sciences offers numerous engineering programs, but all undergraduate engineering ones are in German and only 2 in masters.

The University of Innsbruck is a great place for research. It has 4,146 publications as of 2019, among which 1,397 was published in WoS (Web of Science). It has 40 research centers and 4 competency center. The QS Ranking placed this university in 265th best globally.
