Aalborg University Scholarships for International Students

Aalborg University is located over three campuses across Denmark. So, if you choose to study here you could find yourself in either, Aalborg, Esbjerg, or the capital city of Copenhagen. Aalborg University Scholarships

Scholarships for all levels of study at Aalborg University

1. AAU Internationalization Pool Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: approximately DKK 7,000 for stays in Europe and DKK 9,000 for stays in the rest of the world
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrolled at Aalborg University and intending on completing between three months to a year of study abroad
  • Degree Offered: bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma

This scholarship at Aalborg University aims to assist students during a period of international study whilst enrolled at Aalborg University. The money can also be used towards traineeships and internships abroad. So, if you love traveling and want an excuse to do more whilst studying in Denmark, apply for the AAU Internationalization Pool Scholarship.

If you are choosing to study at a European University, then you will be allocated approximately DKK 7,000 (about 1,000 USD) but if you want to travel farther abroad, then you can qualify for up to DKK 9,000 (about 1,400 USD).

2. Erasmus+ Grant

  • Scholarship Amount: between €420 and €670 per month
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrolled at Aalborg University and intending on completing between three months and a year of study abroad at a European university. Also, applicants must hold citizenship within an EU country
  • Degree Offered: bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma

If you are an EU citizen and want to travel for a short time during your studies in Denmark, then this is the scholarship for you! Aalborg University has signed an agreement with many European universities, so there are loads of locations to choose from. Depending on which country you are going to, you can get between €420 and €470 per month for the duration of your time there.

This scholarship available at Aalborg University is also open to those wanting to complete an internship or a traineeship. In which case, you will need to have secured an agreement with a company in one of the participating countries, there is a list of these countries on the scholarship page. For a traineeship or internship, you can get between €620 and €670 depending on the location.

3. Nordplus Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: approximately DKK 7,000 per semester
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrolled at Aalborg University and intending on completing a period of your studies at another university at a Nordic university
  • Degree Offered: bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma

As with most scholarships offered through Aalborg university, the Nordplus Scholarship offers students funding for the duration of a study abroad. This means that only current students looking to complete a section of their study at a Nordic university can apply.

For those wondering, Nordic countries include Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. You do need to ensure that the institution you would like to study at has signed a cooperation agreement with Aalborg University. The money is intended to help with travel and living expenses for the duration of the stay.

4. Funding of short group travel abroad

  • Scholarship Amount: yet to be decided
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrolled at Aalborg University and intending on traveling abroad in a group between October and March to complete a project
  • Degree Offered: bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma

This scholarship offers an exciting opportunity to study abroad with a small group of your peers and complete one of your university projects. Although it is open to everyone, priority is given to groups in the later years of study. The funding cannot be used to complete a master’s thesis, but master’s students are welcome to apply.

The application form is straightforward, you just need to provide reasoning for your group’s travel abroad and the members who will be attending. You will also be required to complete a short report upon your return.

Postgraduate Scholarships at Aalborg University

1. Tuition fee waivers

  • Scholarship Amount: Full tuition fee waiver
  • Eligibility Criteria: enrolled as a master’s student at Aalborg University and hold citizenship in a country outside the EU/EAA
  • Degree Offered: master’s

Certain master’s students are granted a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of their course. There are around 30 of these Aalborg University scholarships available to students based on strategic consideration and academic evaluation. There is no need to apply for this tuition fee waiver as faculties within the university decide who is eligible. It is only granted to those from countries outside the EU/EAA.

2. Ph.D. Vacancies and Funding

  • Scholarship Amount: a stipend for the duration of the PhD
  • Eligibility Criteria: achieved a master’s in an eligible subject and hold subject-specific qualities

Aalborg University offers several scholarships for Ph.D. students that provide a stipend to assist with doctorate studies. Departments within the university are offering subject-specific vacancies, for instance, the Department of Planning is offering a ‘Ph.D. Stipend Focusing on Co-designing Socially Sustainable Danish Healthcare-houses’.
