Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Turku

1. Scholarships for tuition fee

The University of Turku has a generous scholarship program for all its students subject to tuition fees. This includes non-EU/EEA/Switzerland citizens and non-exchange students. The scholarship is solely merit-based and is awarded to up to 30% of all eligible applicants. It can cover 50% or 100% of the tuition fee for three years.

Renewal of the scholarship for the following year is conditional– the student must be able to complete 45 credits by the end of March or 55 credits by the end of June of their previous academic year. Applications for the scholarship are sent at the same time as the student applies for an undergraduate program in the institution.

2. Scholarships for outstanding performance

    • Tuition-paying students during their first year of studies at the university
    • Must have a grade of ​​55cr with an average score of 3.0 or higher during their first year of studies

The University of Turku offers another scholarship opportunity for their students who performed excellently during their first year in the institution. All paying students during their first year who meet the grade requirement are eligible to apply. The admission services of UTU will reach out to all eligible candidates to put in their applications for the scholarship each spring. The scholarship can cover the awardees’ tuition fee for either one (second year of studies) or two (second and third year of studies) years.

Tuition fees will not be charged to students who are citizens of any country in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). Students holding a citizenship from Switzerland are also exempt from tuition. Additionally, fees do not apply to exchange students, regardless of their nationality.

Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Turku

1. Finland Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount:

Funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finland Scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding international Master’s applicants at the University of Turku. Applications are sent alongside the application for admission in one of the university’s programs. Acceptance for the scholarship is purely merit-based– extra-curricular activities are not evaluated and means testing is not used.

This scholarship available at the University of Turku covers the students’ tuition fee and provides an additional EUR 5,000. The additional grant will be credited to a Finnish bank account, which the scholar can use for their daily living expenses. If the student is able to complete 45 credits by the end of March or 55 credits by the end of June of their previous academic year, the scholarship can be renewed. The scholarship in their second year will cover 100% of their tuition fee.

2. Scholarships for tuition fee

The Master’s scholarship by UTU is open to all tuition-paying students. This includes non-EU/EEA/Switzerland citizens and non-exchange students. The scholarship is awarded to up to 30% of the eligible candidates who sent their applications. To apply, the student must submit their intent together with the application form for admission at the university.

The selection is purely academic-based– other factors such as extracurricular involvements and further testing are not evaluated by the committee. Chosen grantees will receive a scholarship that can cover 50% or the full amount of their tuition fees for two academic years. The scholarship on the second year will only be renewed if the student completes 45 credits by the end of March or 55 credits by the end of June on their previous academic year.
