University of Leicester Scholarships for International Students

The University of Leicester is a public research university founded in 1921 and based in Leicester, England. It offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of life sciences and engineering, as well as social sciences, arts, and humanities.

Most of the scholarships given at the University of Leicester offer only partial funding, usually in the form of contributions to fees. Almost all scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. Also, students can only apply for the University of Leicester scholarships after they have been offered a place. Please note that these scholarships are offered to non-EU students only. Undergraduate Scholarships at University of Leicester

1.East and South East Asia Engineering Scholarship

• Scholarship Amount: Up to £30,000 (£10,000 per year for up to three years)

• • Eligibility Criteria: International fee-paying students domiciled in East and Southeast Asia (Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam) applying for a BEng course in the School of Engineering at the University of Leicester.

    The University of Leicester’s School of Engineering, ranked among the top 20 in the UK, is offering a tuition fee scholarship worth up to £30,000 to one international student from East and Southeast Asia. This scholarship provides a £10,000 tuition fee discount annually for up to three years.
    To be eligible, students must make Leicester their ‘firm choice’ by 30 June 2025 and meet their offer conditions by 20 August 2025.

    Applicants must submit a short video (maximum two minutes) addressing a few questions then submit their application form by the scholarship’s deadline.

2. Family Loyalty Discount

• Scholarship Amount: 10% discount on the tuition fee for each year of your course
• Eligibility Criteria: sibling, spouse, or parent of a current University student or a former University graduate of a full-time course, both of who must be classified as international (non-EU) students at the time of their studies

The family Loyalty Discount is offered to all international (non-EU) students who have or have previously had a relative/spouse studying at the University of Leicester. To apply for this scholarship at the University of Leicester, students have to complete a form and provide the required evidence. If more than one family member registers for the Family Loyalty Discount, the discount is split between all of them, i.e. if two family members register, each receives a 5% discount. Also, if a student has already received another discount or scholarship from the University, they are no longer eligible for the discount. Please note that the same discount in the same percentage is offered at the postgraduate level as well.

3. GSC High Achiever’s Award

• Scholarship Amount: £2,500 per year
• Eligibility Criteria: top-performing international (non-EU) student from each Foundation Stream at any undergraduate degree, excluding Medicine

Students with very high admission and competitive averages will be considered for the GSC High Achiever’s Award. There is no need for an application, as eligible students are considered automatically. The amount of £2,500 is awarded for each year of full-time study at the university for a maximum of three years. If a student is awarded any other kind of scholarship inside of the University, they receive a scholarship of the highest value.

Postgraduate Scholarships at University of Leicester

1. LLM Scholarship

• Scholarship Amount: up to £3,000 per year of full-time study
• Eligibility Criteria: international (non-EU) student from Asia, the Middle East, or Africa who is starting a full-time, campus-based LLM program (eligible countries are listed on the scholarship’s site – link below)

International Asian, Middle Eastern, and African students enrolled in the LLM Program at the University of Leicester can be considered for a scholarship amounting to up to £3,000 per year. This University of Leicester scholarship is based on the standard tuition fee for each year of the course. Please note that not all of the eligible countries are listed on the University’s website.

2. Centenary Alumni Discount

• Scholarship Amount: 20% discount on the new course fee
• Eligibility Criteria: completed undergraduate degree/completed Study Abroad or Erasmus study placement/completed postgraduate (Masters) degree at the University of Leicester

Centenary Alumni Discount is offered to self-financing students who have completed either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or who have completed a Study Abroad/Erasmus study placement at the University. Please note that the discount is not available for PGCE courses or four-year undergraduate Masters degrees. Students of taught degrees (MA, MSc, MRes) and research degrees (PhD, MPhil) with campus-based/distance learning full-time/part-time courses are eligible for the scholarship. There is no need for additional applications. The scholarship is calculated when the student enrolls in a postgraduate course.

3. University of Leicester School of Business Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme

• Scholarship Amount: £3,000 per year of full-time study
• Eligibility Criteria: international (non-EU) student from Asia, the Middle East, or Africa who is starting a full-time, campus-based Business Postgraduate Program; academic merit
• Scholarship Link

For students from eligible countries, the University of Leicester offers a scholarship of £3,000 per year of full–time study. The fee discount is based on the standard tuition fee for each year of the course. All first-class students with their undergraduate degree with a minimal overall percentage of 65% receive the award automatically. Please note that a similar scholarship of £2,000 is offered at the undergraduate level as well (University of Leicester School of Business Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme).
