University at Buffalo Scholarships

The University at Buffalo offers plenty of scholarships for prospective international undergraduate students. Financial opportunities through external scholarships, payment plans, and on-campus employment are also available for international students.

Aside from academic scholarships, UB also offers athletic scholarships to exceptional student-athletes from all over the world.

Prospective graduate students at UB have access to a wide range of internal and external funding opportunities. Funding resources are obtained from internal and external fellowships and assistantships. The University at Buffalo has a complete database of scholarships and fellowships on its website.

1. International Admissions Scholarship

This scholarship at the University at Buffalo is given to qualified international students who have been admitted to any undergraduate degree at UB. There is no additional application for prospective international first-year students to be considered for this scholarship.

Students who apply for admission are reviewed holistically. GPA in high school is considered as well as the activities and extracurricular achievement of the student.

The scholarship award varies and is renewable annually for as long as the scholar makes satisfactory academic progress toward their degree.

2. Jobs and Assistantships

The next scholarship offered at the University at Buffalo we will discuss is assistantships. These are available for graduate students, and like most assistantships offered in universities, assistantships at UB provide students with tuition scholarships, benefits, and health insurance.

Complete coverage of tuition is possible under an assistantship. Stipends are also provided to students at UB with varying amounts depending on the type of appointment. There are three general categories for assistantships. These are teaching assistantships, graduate assistantships, and research assistantships.

3. College of Arts and Science Presidential Fellowship

This fellowship is for the top 23 Ph.D. Students enrolled in the College of Arts and Science. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher are qualified for the fellowship.

The University at Buffalo’s Presidential Fellowship is by nomination only, and students must be endorsed by their department. Additionally, the student must be appointed as a full-time teaching, graduate, or research assistant to be nominated.

4. Josephine De Karman Fellowship

  • Scholarship Amount: $16,000

The Josephine De Karman Fellowship is an external fellowship awarded to Ph.D. or undergraduate students completing their final year of study. The fellowship intends to support students completing their dissertations. Students with excellent academic achievement and strong potential for excellence in research are considered for the scholarship.

5. Joseph W. And Kenneth P. Kogut Brothers of New York Mills Economic Development Award

  • Eligible Degrees: Undergraduate Degrees, Masters Degrees, and Ph.D. Degrees in the field of Economics and College of Arts and Sciences
  • Scholarship Amount: $13,530

This scholarship at the University at Buffalo is for students who are studying in the field of economics or programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students who are highly involved in extracurricular activities are strong candidates for this scholarship. Extracurricular activities include sports and humanitarian engagements. Student-athletes who meet the minimum academic requirements will be given preference by the awarding body.

Applicants for the scholarship are required to submit supplemental materials to be considered for the scholarship. These materials include a write-up on the applicant’s research interests and recommendation letters.
